Default AU Brake Fluid

For Ford Falcon AU S1 vehicles, what is the best type of brake fluid?
dot 4 or super dot 4?

Dot 4 or better will be fine. The higher up in the "Dot" range you go, the better the fluid resists heat etc.

How about that PBR racing brake fluid??

Yep, why not. The brake fluid you use only has to be AT least the same as specified by the manufacturer. I think Ford specify DOT 3, so anything over that is fine. Same as Oil - For newer fords it must be at least SG/H spec (IIRC), but you can use SI, SJ etc.

Motul dot 5 is the best fluid I have tried so far

Warning, DOT 3, 4 and 5.1 are OK as replacement but silicone DOT 5 is not compatible with the others and if you replace/add it to any of the others all the gunk in you brake lines and reservoirs will turn to gel

I would recommend you use what is stated on the reservior cap as not all brake fluids are created equal. For example DOT4 fluid must not be used in Toyota braking systems where DOT3 is specified as this will cause swelling of all rubber parts.
The system needs to be compatible to the fluid that is used, if DOT4 is recommended then use it, if you want good performance from your fluid then change it every 12 months.

So what type of brake fluid brakes down the rubber seals? And whats the best way to drain it out. Do you steel have to bleed it out old school style or can it get sucked out of the reservoir??

apparently you can suck most of the old fluid out of the reservoir with a big syringe, whether that works or not and how long it would take i dunno, but i'm sure it beats bleeding all of it out or spilling it all over the paintwork trying to take the whole thing out lol

Cool thanks for the advice? Is this a common practice? as its really plain and simple, beats having to jack the car etc....

You still have to bleed it through each brake caliper after replacing the fluid in the reservior.
You can get one man brake bleeding kits for bugger all at Bursons etc.
