Default ACA - On the QLD'er who didn't keep left

24 August 06 episode.

An arrogant redneck bearing video camera (scare scare) and to quote 'severe depression', is pulled up by a young motorcycle officer, the initial offence was one of not keeping left, but resulted in his arrest . . .

THE only thing that stuck in my mind is the infringment penalty issued for "not keeping left, multi-lane" is only $45?????

Did I hear this right you QLD folks?

You see, I am normally involved with NSW legislative advocacy in relation to fine levels, but for this offence, as it applies in QLD - is not something I normally keep that close an eye on. It is something I'll take up though through channels next week, to further the cause of behaviour and improved lane discipline.

In NSW we'll land you three demerit points and a fine of $300+/-.

Views?

Nice work Keepleft, the ideal member to bring this up :P

The guy had a complete lack of respect for the law, he deserved everything he got! The mention of a 0.00 BAC is a bad thing in his case, as he therefore has no excuse for being such a tool.

The fine was too small. and the bloke with the camera is a complete tool, great way to tech the kids respect for Police ?

He needs a lesson, a run in with officer Cartman would do it.

I think the start of the issue was over the Coppa standing on the road and the fact that the guys car was partly over the white line, it seem to be like he was concerned that his family was in danger?

I dont agree with what the guy did but the Policeman shouldnt have been standing on the road with traffic going past him. I am quite annoyed that police continue to put their lives in danger through being arrogant, not to mention causing issues on the road where people have to swerve lanes to miss them.

Why did ACA put it on neways?? It really proved nothing except police are weak when being Intimidated.

Yep. up here is sunny QLD it is very common to have the right lane blocked by some do gooder who is keeping the world safe by slowing down traffic.

Often the left lane is actually moving faster than the right.....

such is life....

Saw it tonight and the only thing it proved was that the driver wasn't a fit person to be behind the wheel. A complete tosser. Like lots of people that do the wrong thing but aren't willing to face up to the consequences. The way he reacted against the copper gave the cop every reason to believe he was either on drugs or affected by alchohol. Good on the cop.

I thought the guy was a complete arrogant a***hole.
Hope the video blows in his face and hes up for charges in addiition to:
Speeding,
Not keeping left,
Refusing the breathalizer test.
Resisting arrest?

He really needs to be taught a lesson. Setting a good example for his kids too. What hope have they got?

Keepleft this must sound awesome to Queenslanders but what's the use of a penalty if it isn't enforced. On the Pacifc Highway between Mt Colah and Berowra there is almost a laboratory for the keep left rule. It is an 80k zone and there is a large sign at each end saying 'Keep left unless overtaking.' All to the rule books.

Probably at least half the people who drive along the road keep to the right. There is also a highway patrol car that is dedicated to this stretch of road every couple of days. I've never seen him pull over somebody for not keeping left. What does he do? He has his radar on and pulls people over for exceeding the speed limit. There are a couple of places between settlements where it is perfectly safe to go up to 100 and some do so. He hides in the bushes to catch them. It would be interesting to check his records to see if any of these he reels in were in the right lane and whether they were booked for not keeping left.

That Queensland copper is a true pioneer! Earned every penny of his $45.

There's more money in speeding fines than not keeping left fines

I know. Just WAIT until the upgrade to three lanes of traffic, for each direction, is completed at the Sydney end.

THEN we'll start getting serious about 'keep left', AND I don't mean 'middle'.

There are many reasons for the lousy behaviour, including complicity by some academic state employees, and consultants, who'd like to keep a lid on 'speed' by turning a blind eye to those who might 'casually' take their time 'overtaking'. This 'Euro' thing where you have much greater personal responsibility is alien to many of them. They aid and abet this behaviour by minimising penalties, or by being obstructionist to proposed much tougher measures.

It would help if so called 'independent committees' comprising NRMA (insert your state chapter), police, Motor Accidents Authority, 'the road Authority', would start being transparent and open at fine level reviews. Remember, fines are set in actual legislation.

Not to mention the deliberate bunching up of traffic by means of a too low speed restriction, I seriously deal with people who make Irans toughened clerics seem 'progressive and modern':-)

Patience.

The other reason for such behaviour relates to dedicated highway patrol numbers. This is a western world phenomenon, and I suggest reflects on an age where we have an over reliance on 'fixed camera' enforcement, which is focused primarily one one issue. That leaves many other driver errors virtually unchecked, and we've had these cameras for many years now, a literal generation of road a-holes. . . . . .

Again, patience . . .

VSSII - I saw a trailer for the story, being motoring related I viewed on in.

The same goes for Victorian roads. There was a recent blitz on the Monash Freeway by police targeting tailgaters however nothing was mentioned about people who decide to stick to the right lane doing 95 and completely ignoring anyone behind them.

I reckon if they did a serious study they would find that the most common cause of tailgating is people who don't keep left! Constable Plod was really going after the effect rather than the cause on the Monash Freeway I'd say! :

Very silly thing to do this guy was a idiot and a pig, He moans i got my kids in the car did he think that before he got smart, And his wife has to defend him or maybe he will get trippy with her next. The guy has some problems. What a shame he wasn't in the U.S he would have been given a slap or too and he would have deserved it.
The cop on the bike was very carm and handled it very well nice job i would have slapped him down and cuffed his **** and embarrassed him. But i would have lost my job thats why I'm no cop.

I followed a car on the western ring road from campbellfield to almost the city or Geelong turn off and he was under 100 all the way in the right lane. over 10min of that was ****ing me off. He finally moved when i flashed him and indicated for him to move left. Took 5 shots but he was to busy with his Miss's having a chat and fun.

Yep, Keepleft
I saw that segment (Mrs always watches ACA) ,

1/ The guy only pulled 1/2 way off the road for a start , where else could the cop stand , except on the road .

2/ All he had to do was blow in the machine , 0.00 all over & done.

3/ He was complaining about the cop getting him out of the car etc. in front of his kids , but what about his attitude towards the police force , great example to the kids , Huh

4/ Don't know how the cop kept his "cool" for so long.

5/ Hope the guy tries to take it to court , could have driven away with no charges , now he's got a heap including "resisting arrest" ALL in his own video camera . :

I can "take it or leave it" when it comes to police officers.

There are some who do not deserve the respect, however in this case I have alot respect for the officer in this situation.

He handled the ****er very well, kept his cool in a situation which could of easily escalated.

If it was me, I would have belted the guy waving his arms around, but the officer kept control, gave heaps of warnings etc etc.

Everything by the book.

Just hope the ******** gets whats coming.

quick and easy:

"don't be hating us qld's because your state goverment are anal loving revenue raisers"
we mightn't have such anal fines but at least were going about the young drivers thing the right way the first time around"(unlike the other states)

on the topic of this dude:
one thing comes to mind "stupidity"
why not cop the fine and move on,i saw nothing bad coming from the police officer and all the negativity was from him, from the cops approach right up till his arrest.

pretty sure the law is 100km/h keep left unless over taking, anything below its form to lanes...something like that...i saw that same ACA segment the driver was a complete idiot and to say the cop was a kid in a uniform and that sorta stuff id expect his next '000' call to not be responded too ...

One of my pet hates up here is undertaking people. Reason being is that you're unsure if they're gonna merge over onto you as you're going past.

There's been countless times where I've been slowed down in the right lane because either some old couple is sitting there, thinking they have right of way over absolutely everyone else (including trucks and emergency services), or people who are just plain oblivious to their surroundings.
