Default Turbo AU'S whos got one.?

About a month back I ended up at a dyno day at the champion man's place Joe at Crescent Motorsport. Walking around the workshop I saw a lovely AU xr6 turbo. I was gobsmacked to see this in the flesh. Is the owner a forum member? What would it take to make one a daily driver legally here in NSW and can it be done? The na way is good but today a ba xr6t got my by half a door off at the lights. It was distressing to say the least and downright wrong.

The actual xr6 I saw pumps out 650nm of torque at the wheels. I think that this maybe what will satisfy my hunger.

BA 6Ts & XR8s hose me all the time. Doesn't bother me at all. I'll still try, as every quick take off from the lights results in better traffic flow for those behind! It's all about being a considerate driver.

I would have liked to see the look on the BA XR6t drivers face when a AU wagon was keeping up with his force fed BA although you didnt beat him , im sure you scared the pooh out of him! 1/2 a door is not alot.

July perfomance ford magazine has actually got the one I saw that day. There is a blueT3 au and red XR6.

Todays was a black xr6t/ Really nice looking paint. But I just felt like seeing how it went.Just a squirt to 70 kays it was. I dont know what he thought the windows were pitch black. I took off normally then he fanged it.I never even punched it off the line.If I new that he would have reacted like that I would have punched it harder off ..but its all childs play..

I was reading about that. You have done well. It seems that all the mucking around with the cams and stuff seems to not be in reach of quick times.

I am going to stick my neck out here. I dont really know what you mean by the above, but I am pretty confident the car will now hit the dyno with over 160rwkw.

Sorry mate for my lack of comprehension in my writing. What I meant is that compared to a turbo that a normally aspirated car with cams etc seems to be more lIimited with power gains compared to turbo. A good example is danelgli turbo au six.He has run a 11 second 1/4 mile with that car.I dont believe that a cammed na motor will get an 11 second 1/4.

I think your car will go well above 160 rwkws in time.

The turbo AU Joe did has a gigantic falcon/fpv kind of sticker on it if I remember it correctly. I'm sure it's a fordmods member's car.

10k give or take will probably see you turbo'd. Ask Joe, he's got some pretty wild idea's if you spend some time talking to him.

You NSW people have got it easy, there are a few people on this forum with legal turbo setups on their cars.

Do it, once you go turbo you dont even bother with mods that might give you 5rwkw gain like when you are NA. I would never work an NA car again unless it had big cubes to start with, even then a turbo setup would be in the pipeline. Gen 3 Turbo anyone

The power and torque that boost gives you is awesome. My AU is still the fastest AU on this forum including V8's and all according to the AU timeslip database listing, that has to tell you something :P

Hey lox I am tempted but I am being logical about it. The wagon has around 220,000kms on at the moment . The thing is worth 6k if I am lucky. I will probably retire it and make it a project car for serious power .Bang for buck a turbo should make the au ford what ford should have done with it in the first place. If I were the manager of ford no au xr6 would have been turboless.

These are my sentiments too mate. Turn up the turbo psi sure beats fidling with 101 tweaks which you think you may feel. Then get to the track and most likely to never see at least a 13 second pass in na form. I have been told around 6k should see a supercharger fitted on the car.

the strange part about it is most people spend more on a N/A car in the long term and have no hope beside a blown car..

Look at it this way...
Cam, cam gear, VRS set and head porting 1k-3k
Edit $1200
Extractors $600 (forget the piping as both need that)
Stallie and Diff gears $1000-$2000
Flashy Airbox $650
Superdooper Spark Plugs and leads $200
Track tyres $500
You might be lucky and on a good day, with great air and a good launch squeeze a flat 14, high 13 1/4 mile

now a basic (ie <10psi) kit will set you back between 4-5 grand even less if you source the parts seperately and will run the same times with a crappy single spinner.. The scope is there to throw more coin at the driveline and lower the ET even more...or throw on a supercharger and do the same

I was actually thinking about turbos this morning. What I've spent on the car already, and I haven't done much, could've got me a Snort Kit.

the number one reason for n/a mods is 100% reliability, and spacing out cost. not total power gains.

i want to s/c my au vct, and will at some stage, but i want to be able to tow, race, run 1/4's, and (stupid as it may sound) still utilise my dte, and other goodies

Pfft if its tuned conservatively then there is no reason reason for it not to be reliable.

Whats a DTE?

Ahh okay, you could still use the DTE feature if you dont go an aftermarket computer and injectors I imagine.

Legality is a big one in Vic, thats why I had to sell my AU :( If its not legal your not gonna get insurance especially at 21 years old.
