Talking Rear cover for station wagon.....

My mum has a EF Fairmont wagon, and it's on dual fuel so therefore there is the spare tyre standing in the back thats on the right hand side of the car (Inside the car) and we would like a pull over blind to cover the shopping etc etc in the boot.....BUT it needs to go around the spare wheel.......Has anyone had this done?

Does anyone know how or where we could get this made? Or do they sell them already made up to suit a station wagon with the spear tyre standing up in the boot!

Cheers

I have this problem too. My Futura wagon doesn't have the load cover either.

I was thinking about getting one from a wreckers and cutting out a spot to go around the tyre. I don't think it would be a neat fit though, as the blind (load cover) still needs to be pulled straight back. I guess you could get one and cut a wheel width piece out, all the way along the length of the blind.

Problem is though that it wouldn't cover the whole load space, but it'd go close. My wagon has tinted windows so it'd be ok I reckon.

Hmmmmmm, idea for mod! LOL!

No idea, but there is a wagon same as mine at FTG awaiting wrecking. From memory, it wasn't on gas, therefore would have the load cover.

Give them a ring tomorrow!

If anyone needs a load cover for their AU wagon, I have one sitting in my room as new, gathering dust.

Simple solution with my rear cargo blind; I simply laid the spare tyre flat on the floor instead of standing it up. Used a [tensional] rubber strap over the spare tyre so it won't slide around the boot. Works perfectly.

You need to remove the bracket that holds the spare tyre upright; there are four nuts to remove from under the car - pretty simple.

That is a way around it, but I prefer the way the upright tyre allows the loading of the cargo space!

What about instead of the tyre face the side wall standing up , would it fit hard up against the back of the seat in the middle ( make something to mount it to the back of the passengers seats in the middle ) , then pull the cover up and over over the tyre ? , i haven't really had a good look inside the rear of the AU wagons , so im unsure if its possibe , maybe though ?

Yes it is possible to stand the spare tyre upright behind the driver's or front passenger's seat. You don't need to fix it to the car as it fits snuggly and securely. The only downside is you're losing one rear passenger space; but if you hardly carry rear passengers then it's o.k.

Nevetheless, I will be chucking out the spare tyre altogether when driving around the city for two reasons:

1) It is very rare to suffer a puncture unless, I've suffered two in the last 10 years of driving.

2) I have RACV Total member's care anyway so emergency breakdown assistant (unlimited metro towing) is only just around the corner.

For me a spare is only essential on long weekend road trips such as to the snow, fishing, camping ect.

I was actually on about standing it up in the middle behind the passengers seats , right infront of the pullover blind/cover.

That is probably a worst position to mount the spare, it will get right in the way of the cargo blind, infact, I don't even think you can use the blind with the spare tyre behind the rear passenger's seat.

Well, I got a mate coming over either tonight or Thursday with an EF wagon. I can see if it fits, or what you would need to do to make it fit.
