Thumbs up New cameras can ticket noisy cars

Britain's obsession with spy cameras continues, this time with new police cams that will have the ability to ticket automobiles that are too loud. The cameras will record a ten second audio and video record of the incident, and store it to an internal hard drive. Police can then download up to 10,000 incidents to a laptop for processing using Wi-Fi. According to The Newspaper, the cameras will be used to detect loud exhaust systems, unnecessary horn honking, and loud music coming from vehicles. The system has been developed by Acoustic Research Laboratories in the U.K.

They'd have to have a pretty darn strong way of proving it, if they want it to hold up in court

You need to remember that England has always had strict noise laws, especially in homes... They have noise police too, busting homes with too louder stereos...

That's why all Brit audiophile home kit is small bookshelf speakers, not big thumping american stuff...

You might want to do some better research champ! America has a much smaller market for large or floorstanding speakers than even Australia- Bose is their no.1 manufacturer of speakers.....about as small a speaker as you can get!

The UK manufactures many many well know floorstanding speakers (albeit they tend to make em in China these days!!)

But you are dead right about the noise regulations over there. An act was passed in the early nineties that covered many things but one part was to give police full power to confiscate loud stereo equipment used between 10pm and 7am.

Bear in mind however, that a 16" black and white TV turned up loud can cause a lot of serious noise pollution in a block of flats!

I guess that more people there live in centrally located apartment blocks than they do here, hence a real need to try and control noise pollution...in reality, they had difficulties in many cases proving what was genuinely noise pollution.....I know due to having serious issues with a neighbour in Edinburgh!

Good point! Also, what happens if there are cars driving by and trucks sound their horns, use airbrakes etc, it'd have to be a pretty involved system to sort it all out.....probably more likely to have issues too.

No they are not exempt
What you will find is that under acceleration they will break the noise levels,
but whilst they are cruising they tend to be under the levels.

Although I'd give my left testicle to own a pair of these and the bank of amps to power it...

Thats the very pair I was thinking of!! B&W Nautilus! Oddly enough, I'm off to a shop this morning that has them and a pair of the 800 series- god theyre big!
Those Nautilus speakers really need an amp of a bout 500 watts (8ohms) to run the bass end of these...big balls! :

Funny thing is, the American market doesn't like floorstanding/large speakers anywhere as much as we do over here. I work for Yamaha and our range in Oz is decided almost exclusively by what Megamart in the States sells......except, we have had to change the speaker ranges as Aussies prefer large speakers and the Yank market didnt...? Sounds wierd but thats what we found!
I'm quite sure an American on this forum will tell us otherwise......!
