Arrrh! I got 2nd hand rear seatbelts to replace mine in the XR8 which are shot(Spring coils gone). On removal these new ones were fine and working in the don or car. Now the two side ones are stuck locked. I can see the coiled springs are fine but they are locked tight and wont let any belt out. How do I reset them to let the belt out?

Are you new ones installed in the car yet? When I changed mine over they wouldn't work when they were out of the car but were fine when I put them in. Don't know how that worked but it did. Hope it helps

Yeah I wondered I they dont like being tipped upside down and the likes. I think the ball bearing must lock it when moved around but just wanted confirmation. Thanks mate.

All good fellas. Exactly as above. XR8 ha belts now. What a complex device(retractor). The retractor needs to be on the exact angle of where it's mounted in the car to operate(to loosen). There's a ball bearing within it that works like a switch. I thinks it's designed that way for roll over accidents and it locks the belt in place. When mounted in place the mechanism released the belt and all good. I'm now an expert in rear seat belt fitting

You only need to alter the angle very slighty - eg turning, accelerating braking and they should lock.

Easy, go and buy NEW ones like you should have done in the first place.
They're not that expensive...especially if bump into something and the Ambos cant get you out as the seat belt is jammed !!

New or Old the problem will remain the same. The belt must be on the right angle to get it to work.

Having seen ambos work mate, they cut the belt so no dramas there. Seat Belts I got were in immaculate condition and the only reason that they have been fitted.

Near on $200 for a new driver position one is not real cheap either. Maybe you're comparing them to truck ones.
Having a giggle at your recent predicament Dave as I was in the same situation when I took the above mentioned new one out of the box.
