i managed to fit a complete nissan 4cyl engine into the boot of my sedan once, upright ... took the spare tyre out and sat the sump into the spare wheel compartment, ties it down and boot lid shut.
You should have seen the faces at the wreckers, priceless, especially they loaded it in there with a forklift!

You can do that in Adelaide as they don't have the same amount of traffic as 'proper' capital cities
Although they're not the only ones to have stuff hanging off their AU's... and sadly, the front is worse!. (Locals around here will recognise this one)

All of South Australia looks like it's straight out of Mad Max. Except for Glenelg, which looks like it's out of District 9

Best attempt at moving long objects in a car I have seen for a while was old mate at Bunnings who had 8 lengths of timber strapped under his car end to end by the bumber bars with about 2 meters hanging out either end ,got some weird looks at the lights when the timber was hanging out 2 mts into the crossing traffic

nah! he'd be right, chuck a hanky on the end and she'll be apples......years ago, when I were a lad.... I brought a 5 metre lump of two inch exhaust home on a motorbike, got some funny looks from the coppers
mind you, these days they would throw the book at me
