With the AU1 the standard V8's had 175kw, the XR8's had 185kw. So whats the differences? I assume the heads would be the same, along with the internals and other major componants as it wouldnt seem cost effective to have special parts for such a low volume seller like the standard V8. Is it just something like the exhaust being more civilised like with the VCT motors in the Ghias being less powerful then the XR6?

Headers and better flowing cats, thats all, all ran the exact same equipment, ecu might of been re-calibrated from ford but would dare say be pretty similer tune.

Thought as much. Thanks for confirming. Looks like an easy fix to get a little more power.

Could be. I wonder if anyone has the layout of a photo of the factory AU1 XR8 exhaust system.
I know with my Ghia its a single system from the Cat back. Did the XR's have a twin cat, twin pipe system? I suspect they probably did. Even the VCT went from single Cat to twin pipe/twin muffler and back to single again. Either way a set of headers, metal cat, the current redback cat back and an edit tune should wipe out any significant differences I think.

I've got an AU II V8 and pretty sure its the same spec.
Find that it starves for fuel if you really jump into it - which is really annoying. Anyone got any tips?

I'm not too fussed on the injectors as I run bbq fuel anyway. I'll just do the headers, new cat and an edit tune to maximise the cars performance. I'm not worried about all out track et's these days. Just want to enjoy the V8 and have enough poke to keep me grinning.

Casper, I got my original 185kW in my LTD to what we estimate as about 210fwkw with CAI, extractors, high flow cats and 1:1.72 ratio rockers. Point being, in my opinion, if you can get them to breath, some good results will follow.

Tickford extractors and dual 2.25" was the only difference between the std 175kw and the XR8 185kw configurations.
Welcome back Casper
