Get a lube stick or just replace it, they're not that pricey

Whilst the motor is idling, get a candle & allow it to (carefully) rub against both the inner & outer face of the belt. Don't use soap or any other product that gets slippery if wet (apologies to Bon Jovi).

poppa smurf,
Rubber grease is available from the usual places...Repco , Autobahn etc. Usually comes in a tube about 250 grammes from memory. Haven't bought any for ages. Peter. |

Replace the belt! lol takes $20 and 5 minutes.
If you don't know how, cut it just before a caravan park and limp your car over out front, pop the hood and look confused, one of em will help out for a 20 or a slab of beer. |

I know everybody (with one or 2 exceptions) is trying to help but why would you put a lubricant on a drive belt when it needs grip to work properly? Just pull the belt off, turn it inside out and check for cracks or splits. If you find them, there is the cause of your noise. Replace. While the belt is off, check the tensioner and idler pullies for noise. Usually a mild grumble or squeal. Replace. Also check your water pump for free turning and play. Free turning is ok, play is not. While you are there, again, make sure the water pump spindle is not making any noise as well. I had one sieze on me and cost me a new pump and belt plus was finding bits of destroyed serpentine belt for months after all around the engine bay. Hope this helps.
I forgot to mention, alternators can make noise when they are on their deathbed as can air con compressors. |

I understand what you are saying but all is good mechanically, simply a noisy belt
I had my suspicions about it being something more sinister as well but as soon as I put some "belt conditioner" on it ( I use a lot of the stuff around my workshop on different machines so i know it's good gear) the noise ceased leading me to believe it is only the belt this turned out to be a short term fix the noise has returned after treating it yesterday with candle wax so i think it may be time for a new belt I'll look at it on the weekend I dont like the look of the job but easily do-able
