Default K&N Replacement Air Filter - Ford Focus (LW)

.. after much waiting, my Christmas present arrived in the mail a few days ago. Cost me about $65 (inclusive postage and handling) from eBay. Delivery time was just short of 3 weeks (would have been faster if not for the Christmas rush). Basically just some photos of the installation.

Model: E-2993

Not a very small air filter, 20 cm in height/length

Stock air-filter still pretty clean, only done 2.6k kms

.. as close as it gets.

Just nice, fits nicely in the airbox.. but not as snug as the OEM air filter

The engine bay..

Not to forget the all important disclaimer

Basically the equipments needed are pretty simple.
1. Ratchet
2. Adaptor
3. Drive extension for ratchet
4. Socket 7mm

The only thing I found hard was the engine bay was quite snug and it wasn't very easy loosening the screw at the back (near the fuse box), hence the need for the drive extension for the ratchet. Other than that, it's a good fit.

.. took the car out for a spin, and thru my butt dyno... couldn't hear any difference in sound, but at lower/mid revs it does seem a little smoother (which is good enough for me). Will monitor on any changes to the FC later

There is a rubber ring at the front left of the LV airbox which, when removed, enables you to manoeuvre the airbox around a bit more easily - you can get to the rear screw without so much work.

If there isn't one on the LW, then this information will do you no good at all...

Thanks for the post sysh. As soon as I free up some money, I'll probably add this to the list of to do's : )

Interested to see if you can squeeze out a couple more km's per tank with the new filter.

Where does that second intake go? I can see the one in the right goes straight into the airbox, but not the second one. Does it perhaps also go into the airbox, maybe from the bottom?

If so, I can foresee a possible upgrade for LV's, adopting the LW's airbox.
