Hi,
I have an '06 BF typhoon.... I stupidly didn't get around to servicing it at the start of this year and managed to wreck the turbo. I had the Mr Turbo recondition the turbo as it was not completely broken. The reconditioned turbo is putting through more boost than the previous and is causing the computer in the car to shut engine power off temporarily incase the turbo blows up or sometihng! Anywho I took it to Hi-Torque to find out what the problem was and what solution there was. They told me the stock actuator on the turbo was receiving too much boost and needed to be replaced with a variable actuator. Apparently the actuator, when over boosted, would tell the computer something's wrong and it's safety measures kicked in. They said they could fix it with a variable actuator and a tune up for I think about $1400. Does this sound right? I called a few other car tuning/dyno people nearby and got quoted up to $3000 and was told I'd need flash tuners etc.... I'm no expert in this so I'm hoping for any good advice!! Please and Thank You. Alex. |

Something does not sound right...
Just to confirm, it has been "overboosting" since it was rebuilt? How long after it was rebuilt that it had started doing it? Is your car stock or previously tuned with any mods? Even if this was the case where it is overboosting it does point out in the direction that it could require an aftermarket actuator, but I sense the problem could also be something else.

Yeah a bit weird that it needs a aftermarket actuator. My actuator failed on my turbo it was overboosting bad just replaced the actuator with a stock one. Been fine ever since.

If your car is stock it just needs the actuator replaced.
If it requires tuning , the best way is with a SCT flash tuner as this software gives the best results. If the car is modified and the wastegate is blowing open in then requires a modified turbo exhaust housing which eliminate this fault. Cheers Paul

It's all stock, no mods. Hi-torque said they could turn the turbo down so's not to overpower the stock actuator.... But I didn't particularly want to lower performance! Thanks guys |

Sounds like Hi-torque are trying to rip you off. Or really are fricken useless.
Would understand if the car wasn't stock. |

I have done some light mods to my FPV F6 (automatic), every time I stall it up over 2000 the boost cut comes on and im still having issues with overboosting inbetween gear changes, anyone have any ideas what may cause this?
