zetec gearbox

hi all, lately i have been thinkin about swapping the engine in my mk2 cortina, currently it is a 1.6 kent, i read on one of the forums that the zetec engine will bolt up to the old 4 speed from the escorts aswell as the 4 speed from the mk1 and 2's. can somebody verify this for me? if this is so would the 3 speed auto mate up? cheers

Im in the process of doing this converions(among others) to my RS2000 now,yes its true will mate up to the 4 speed you need to get a 1.8ltr zetec flywheel and have it redrilled to suit the 2ltr pinto clutch,you may also need a (retro ford type ) water rail (if going in a escort anyway),and use a modified escort pinto starter,then you will need to cut the bowl and pick up off the sump and re fabricate it around the other way. as well as fab/buy zetec engine mounts.

I just trial fitted a 2ltr pinto to a mk2 (2000e gearbox) tonight in a mk1 cortina and on orignal mounts theres abit of room at the back of the head for possibly a factory zetec water outlet so it may be a bit simpler,give me about a year and we will fit a zetec in the Mk1 as well.

Hi'' I was thinking about a zetec for a prefect iv got.. the price of the g/box they offerd put me off... This is great info.. as iv got a few esky 4 speeds and a r/s 2000 box the short shift one... witch one of them (zetec)is the best motor(strongest) ? may use this insted of pinto... Cheers
