Hi all
I am up for replacing the original Goodyears. They have done good service with over 50k on the clock. However, I would like to replace them with something a little quieter. Any recommendations? Whilst price is an issue, other considerations include safety, handling and wear. Cheers |

The only Yokohamas I'd touch are the Advan Neova and A048. I'm with Piotr... you've gotta give the Potenza RE001 a try. I've yet to find someone that doesn't like them.

If quietness is your preference, Lexus uses the Dunlop SP Sport Max as factory for the IS250 (last I remember), therefore it should reduce the road roar considerably… |

205/50/17 standard, you can get away with 215/45/17, they are cheaper and most tyre shops will have a better range of tyres to choose from. And of course they are wider tyre by 1cm

I bought Yokohama Advan A10s which were a trade in from a brand new WRX for a good price, they grip really well but they aren't the most quiet or comfortable tyres in the world.

That';d be because the dealers would rather pay $50 each less for the tyres
The 215s are very slightly smaller in rolling diam, but not enough to be illegal or make much difference to anything. They'll also be slightly more responsive and have less tyrewall flex. I'll be getting Khumo RU31s on mine, but any of the above are good tyres. I'm very impressed with the wear on the standard Zetec Goodyears, I've seen 45k out of a set that were very hard used. RM.

I got a call from a the dealer and he wants 300 bucks a pop for the goodyears.I told him forget it because i have been quoted elseware 245 for them.
I have only got 28,000 k'm out of them, so you guys getting 45,000 k's out of them is fantastic. I have see pirellis for 165 each. What else is out the for 17' inch tyres that are quiet and will last more than 30,000.. thanks Mixo |

I'd be getting a wheel alignment, that's way below par...a friends Zetec has 45k on it and is only just starting to touch the wearbars...and he belts it pretty hard.

Has she been belting curbs with it? A friend of mine just got some random brand tyres, $175 each for 205/50/17s, he recons they're not bad, but not a patch on the turn-in response of the goodyears...

I've got Accelera Beta's, cheap as brand that I only got because they came free with the rims when I got them. Not bad, but nowhere near as grippy as higher spec tyres. But for a budget they're not bad. Not sure how much they cost from stores, haven't scoped it out, but at a guess I wouldn't think they would be any more than $150-$175 each. Still, 11000 k's later and they've still got plenty of tread, and that includes two cruises. They noticeably lose a bit of traction going around twisties at high speed. Was frustrating on the last cruise because it was slightly damp as well, and I felt like if I blipped the throttle coming out of corner they would lose traction entirely.
Maybe I'm just not pushing them enough! +1 for Bridgestone Potenza's Re001's, being back on topic!

Damn tyre wear I dont know why tyres aren't made of concrete and roads made of rubber. It would avoid flats and be sweet for bike riders too.
