I just use plain old Shell LPG 15W40 ... and it gets replaced every 5000km.
Being EGAS is uses the 15W40 grade oil though. Coles had it in stock on the shelf for $19 for 5L (surprisingly) ... so i bought a few bottles. Never have a problem with it ... nice and quiet on startup (even with aftermarket cam installed) ... and it's nearing the 250,000km mark ... so still a baby really. I see no need for change oils for my usage if it works well.

mobil 1 fully syn 10w 30. I have used this since i got the car at 53 XXX. I use it every time. Also comes down to the filter you use. I have been using genuine motocraft filters, then i moved on to purolator then finally KN. I think the KN ones do the trick.

Sorry to hijack thread but do you guys in Aussie actually get proper Motorcraft filters when you go to Ford to buy an AFL1 ? I mean like the white filter with the red lettering? All we get is a resprayed Ryco with Ford logo on it. In fact if you get brake clean on it it strips the white paint off to reveal the grey Ryco lettering underneath.....

I've been using Penzoil 10W 30 in my AU I6 for a few years now, it's the best i've come across so far. Steer clear of that Magnatec crap!

Penrite HPR Gas 10 in my Gas AU with either Ryco or Pureone filters. Used to use normal HPR 10 in my EL not on gas. No need for thicker oil yet in my beast yet.

The reason why I suggested steering clear of Magnatec is that when I used in in my AU the top end of the motor was far more noisy than normal when cold. So much so that you could hear it from inside the cabin, with the windows up and radio off. I haven't had that issue with Geniune Ford oil, or Penzoil. Yet all three oils have a 10W cold rating.

Pretty much any oil in the recommended grade will work fine, so most opinions here will be fairly worthless - except maybe where back-to-back tests are done with different brands. the thread probably serves some purpose though... some people feel that once an engine has done over a certain arbritrary number of km's (100k, 150k, maybe 200k) that because of that said number of k's (and regardless of the lack of other symptoms of wear) the engine requires to be run on thick oil eg 20w/50 or thicker. So after reading here the number of people using **w/30 oil on high k engines they might feel reassured that they don't necessarily need to start running on syrup... one thing that would be handy though - to give some accurate info about which is the better oil, is before and after dyno readings with different types of oil. I've read a few magazines and websites over time where similar things have been done. unfortunately not many of us have a dyno handy when we're doing our oil changes though... |

Just put some 10w/40 Castrol Magnatec in my 02 AU3. Didn't have any issues with it in my old car.

I used Penrite HPR10 Gas which was good and the latest oil I've got in both AUs is Shell 15/50 and that appears to be doing better than the Penrite. Cheers, GK
