Default Silly fuel question

Before you all laugh,

I have only had my AU XR6 for about 3 weeks and its just a weekend car so have only had to put fuel in a couple of times.

The problem is when I am trying to fill it up the fuel pump cuts out all the time as if the tank is full, I have tried different angles with the pump and holding the pump in further and out etc but same problem.

The only servo that I have been to is a BP, and this has been the same with both regular unleaded and premium.

Any one else had anything like this?

There is a breather tube (vent?), it may be blocked, although I have no idea how to fix it.

Yeh I have this problem too, it drives me crazy. it takes forever to fill up. Please tell us how to fix it.

I remember a thread on this issue a while back.

A number of people had the issue, the way one guy resolved it (a partial resolution I'd say) was by shoping around a few servos as not all pumps did it.

By a little trial and error, he settled on a particular store.

I'm not sure why this took place, but I think it may have had something to do with the rates at which various pumps pump!

Others may be able to shed light on it. I've not had the problem on either of my AUs but neither are XRs.

the main pumps that do this are the high flow pumps. the best thiong you can do is just dont pull the trigger all the way in and dont ram the nozzel all the way down. frustrating i know, but its pretty much all you can do.

When the servo pumps cut out, its because the fuel level is rising too high and when it hits the fuel nozzl... click, the fuel cuts out.

Pain is the ***, but its better it cuts out then spewing fuel all down the side of the car.

I found older servos and the stingy ones (like the older libertys and private fuel stations floating around) dont seem to do it as thier nozzles are smaller.

Theres only 2 ways that I can think of to stop the fuel clicking off with the fatter nozzles are..... First one is to fill slower so it doesnt get an airlock in the pipe.. or
2... fix the source of the problem which is the fuel not traveling into the tank fast enough by hacking up your old fuel filler and putting a biger neck from filler to tank.

I just screw the nozzle on and flick the clip.
I just clean the windows and lights while I wait for it to fill to 90L ... then i go in and pay $45 and I'm on my way again to do another 650-700 km.

Oh ... petrol ... can't say I've had that issue ... not on the Territory (well the wife hasn't said about filling issues.)
