If you've put a series 2 cluster in a series 1 it won't function properly. Likewise, if you put a series 1 XR cluster in a Fairmont or Fairlane it won't function properly. Climate control units are interchangeable between all the series, it's a problem with the cluster you have.

I went from a standard series one cluster to a series 2 XR cluster and only cost me $57.00 at Gauge works to have it calibrated.

that was to rewire it not to recalibrate it the calibration is the same but there are wiring differences between low series and mid/high series also slight difference between S1 and S2 but the bigest issue here is the computer display and there are quite significant differences here and thats why a full S2 conversion is needed I neglected to mention the oil gague problem comes from the fact that in S2 some of the clusters (if not all) have a fake gague it is really just like the idiot light as it displays about 3/4 or 0 and needs a switch not a sender unit it's really just there for looks not to tell you any fluctuations in oil pressure
