It's a shame we won't be going nuclear- what a great power source! I think the combustion of coal in power stations pollutes more than cars. Yep, Nuclear Power has come a long way since Chenobyl.

What I think could damage the industry here more is the tarriff situation.
If the tariffs drop too low, the makers could pack up and leave. The Labor party has university educated people in it also. |

Can we leave political debate out of the thread please, we have seen time and time again, and with the last page that it only ends up in insults and banter between members and ends up with a padlock.
The topic seems a worthwhile discussion, but leave the polly parties and unions etc arguments off the forums |

Australia is small in terms of the world anything australia does even on a large scale will be negligible. Reducing emissions a negligible amount has not been proven to make a difference. |

Agree 150% with everything above. As far as kyoto is concerned, australia is already on track to meet or better the emission targets set by kyoto,it was merely a symbolic gesture that should have been excepted by the australian government years ago,and to say it will ruin the australain economy is just typical conservative scare mongering. |

Ethanol fuel is plain and simple. Even if everyone with v8s changed to 6s there would be no difference to global warming.

45° Winter? Someone takes the Global Warming Lies a bit too seriously... good to see their propaganda works though. Us sane thinkers will keep driving whatever we want and knowing nothing is going to happen to anybody... :

Will kill off people driving them every day, not going to stop the weekenders. I dont think everyone is going to give up there passion just because of fuel prices, i personally would pay $2/l to go out for a cruise.

The Labour party isn't in power. The Labor party is. One of their MP's was previously appointed to the UN as an expert of ecconomics Many Labor PM's have been Rhodes scholars Unfortunatley predicting the effects of climate change will never be an exact art. But it cant be good for the environment when everyone takes a canoe to work. Where is Laminge when you need him?

There is an easy solution to "Climate Change"
If you believe, you owe it to yourself to stop exhaling CO2 (or Carbon in the modern vernacular), and you can rest easy knowing you have taken a stance. I personally will wait around for the scientific proof rather than rely on marketing and public profile to sway my judgement. And get my 393 Clevo running prior to judgement day Mankind have previously been led down the garden path to immanent doom on a global level for the personal benefit of a relative few.(Y2K anyone?) At least the media will win whatever the outcome. Trying to find fillers for a 24/7 News channel must be a .

Also Kyoto allows developed countries to buy up credit. That is, you can help a developing country decrease its levels of emissions and a portion of that in turn counts towards your obligations. Basically allowing for an end around the system. Seems to me like there are scare mongerers on both sides of the issue. To those banging on about university graduates and the Labor party not having them...i was always led to believe Labor was loved by the left wing do gooders, sounds like uni students to me...hehe. Secondly and more importantly George W. Bush went to Yale university and Harvard Business School. I think the 'council worker' is looking pretty good. |

According to studies, Australia's coal fired power stations account for one third of our total carbon dioxide levels, while transport only produces 1/3 of CO emmisions. So if anyone needs to be worried about ramifications of Kyoto it should be every ba$tard sitting in their loungeroom watching "Inconvienient Truth", "The great greenhouse swindle", etc. infront of their cheap Chinese split cycle air conditioner, pushing electricity consumption to the limit. Expect brown outs this summer.
The rest of the world are gonna be paying Australia to to dump the spent uranium rods we originally sold them in central Australia anyway so we might as well make use of our vast Uranium deposits for clean cheap power. We'd have to import nuclear engineers to run them though, we don't have any. So what I'm saying is sure tune our cars to run efficiently hence causing less pollutants, but power stations by far are the main offenders here. |

i dont expect brown outs, i expect my ducted fujitsu aircon to die 5 or 10 times.. gets so god damn hot in the shade sometimes we usually have to hose it down
Kyoto effects all emissions, not just cars
