For those that think smoking isn't too bad for you. I've just received word that a family member died this morning from Lung Cancer caused by smoking. RIP Campbell.

I think I'm dying from effects of passive bull????t pumped into my system by the media. Plus to make it worse, we're having an election here in SA. A serious compromise to the healthy condition. Three weeks after the voting is over I can still smell the election campaign in my clothes! By the way, in SA it is not illegal to drink liquor whilst driving?????? Is this so in other states? Think about that for a while in the context of what behaviours should be outlawed in your own motor vehicle in the interests of the wider poulation....

ok ok , calm down everyone ! ..lol , i didn't start this thread for everyone to have a go at each other !...
Myself - yes a smoke - and i to like others here have mentioned have consideration for non smokers , i dont light up in confined places if with non smokers , i dont blow it in their face , i dont smoke while others are still eating , i dont but on the ground etc etc ... yes it is horrible those who have no concern for others and do the opposite...ok.. but why should all smokers have to pay the penalty for a few peoples bad mistakes ? , thats like saying too many people speed in cars so we'll put speed limiters on the cars so they only do 60km max from now on ! ... and as for the toxins , you non smokers breath in more garbage from factorys and cars everyday than from passive smoke..... Im not saying ban cars / factorys etc etc !, and im not saying ban smoking !.. It's up to people to try to do the right thing and just have a little consideration for others , the amount of laws being layed down these days just because people can't agree on stuff is rediculous, and most of the new laws go against our old rights ! . And as far as Cancer too i personally know more people who have passed away who never smoked than people who did, buts thats just a 50/50 thing too depending who you know . ... Also that peson who mentioned they lost someone recently from cancer i am very sorry to hear of your loss, truely .... Back to the topic .... Plz just everyone have a little consideration for each other and how these things effect both sides and try to find a resoning , so the government doesn't have to do it for us ! ;)

How about some of you think about others for once? There are people out there who cant breathe properly as it is, and smoke just makes it worse. And if they want to go out for tea or a drink at a pub somewhere they should be able to without having to gasp for air. I dont care if someone has a smoke outside or whatever (thats what happens at home).

Just a little curious on this one, but can any proper smoker here say that they really don't want to quit, that they actually enjoy the taste of a ciggy?

I view this as a civil liberty issue. If the government are going to start regulating what you can do within the confines of your privately owned motor car, then what's to stop them banning you smoking at home? Or picking your nose or growing a mono-brow or wearing no deodorant, or any other bad habit someone might have. Ridiculous.

I'm not going to get into this too deeply, but saying people are hypocrites for driving cars/trucks etc and not agreeing with smoking is insane!! How do you get to work? How do you pick up your kids from school? How do you get to the movies? How do you do the shopping? How do you see your family and friends? Transport is a way of living, people can get by without smoking. Would you quit if there was no pollution? Please!!!

I did smoke about 30 cigs a day up until 16 years ago when the penny dropped that it was not good for me or others around me.I now have emphysema as a direct result of smoking(I just hope I have not endangered my kids or anybody else from passive smoking)I can understand smokers having problems with the laws as they stand.I do not think smokers who smoke in groups or alone should be subject to any laws stopping them from smoking. but I do have a problem where it may endanger the health of other people.. A simple question to people who smoke. If you were offered a phial of poison( and told it was a poison) and to swallow it every 20 minutes or so and that gave you an addictive rush for 15/20 minutes, was also told that this poison gave you a more than even chance of kicking the bucket or at least suffering a debilitating disease, would you throw it down your throat? If you had half a brain you would not!!!! BUT it must be the persons choice..If the government were fair dinkum on this subject they would ban over the counter sales of all smoking products....My opinion only..

Im just people are hypocrites when they judge smokers and can't see their own damage they are doing themself too by running cars and buses etc etc , everyone turns a blind eye to the toxins of car fumes etc etc because we not only need them , but we enjoy them and want them for recreation & hobby and so forth too , same with factorys too , most of u turn a blind eye to the polution/toxins your company puts out because you wouldn't want to loose your job !/ and the government turn a blind eye to it all because the money they make in taxes form it all.
So to blame totally one thing like passive smoking for all your health problems on a few smokers when you turn a blind eye to your own arrigance all the time everyday in hypocritical ! .

Of all the people who use cancer as an argument against smoking how many of you go to the beach or pool without a shirt on? Or basically walk around without one. Well isn't skin cancer one of the biggest killers? Yet many people happily go to beach to tan up.

In case your thinking? Yes, I used to smoke but I quit many years ago. It aggrevated my asthma. Since I've stopped smoking I now only have an asthma attack roughly in 5 year cycles. Which I know is also triggered by pollen. I'd rather an attack every 5 years or so. It's far better than every couple of months.

The main point /the toxins/the stuff that kills you !---> just about everyone uses something everyday such as a car or truck / whatever /run toxic producing machinery - around other people . These cars/machines alone produce more toxins in a few seconds than a lifetime of smoking cigarettes ( and i mean actually smoking them , not just passive smoking them ! ), yet everyone is so quick to point the finger at the smokers for all their health problems , and thus jump on the governments bandwagon when they say " lets now ban smoking here , and there , and here too ".
The are smokers out there like myself who do have consideration for non smokers and DO NOT smoke around them or what so ever to upset them about the issue , but it would be nice if non smokers would have the same concers to a smokers instead of just bagging them. With the attitude of some non smokers toward smokers, you wonder why they blow it in your face ! .

Smokers have a choice whether to smoke of not but they fail to realise as Mitchay is showing that they harm others in more ways than just one. Car pollution kills less people than smoking does.
