This I agree with one exception; that being there is one bad thing we have failed to recognise and that is as a community we are over regulated by our respective Governments (Federal, State & Local).

And our Judicial system is a joke. If you get caught not paying tax in this country you'll end up in jail. But if you murder someone, they will change it to manslaughter, then say you have had a hard childhood. You'll get 6 years with a minimum of 18 months and still be out in 6 months. Thats IF you get jailed at all.........

Great:

a) Many parts are relatively unspoilt (clean green waters etc)
b) We litter less than many overseas places.
c) Better gun controls.
d) Democracy works.
e) Improving racial tolerance.

Bad:

a) Growing trend to a greed driven culture.
c) Head in the sand approach over some environmental issues (Murray-Darling etc).
d) State jealousies (on par with Football Team and the Holdsen v Ford squabbles)
e) A Commonwealth Government too isolated from what happens in the real world outside Canberra and particularly in distant state's like WA.

I live in and love Australia. It is one of those places that gets your heart racing with pride, and passion. The numerous sporting competitions, public events, and national traditions live on. These are just a few of my favourite things about Australia.

1. Ned Kelly - What an awesome character to have as a villian
2. Thongs - Also known as pluggers or flip flops, they are a required to be Australian
3. Barby - Gathering round the steaming hot plate is a tradition
4. Bathurst - the great race Ford vs Holden
5. Meat Pies - A must in an Aussie diet
6. Our cars - Aussie cars are good quality with desent performance for a good price
7. The laid back attitude
8. The native animals - Although Kangaroos are considered a pest, they are good for shooting oh and tourism :evil3:
9. The Hills Hoist - A clothes line that everyone in Australia has swung on at least once in their life
10. The Beaches - In my opinion, they are the best in the world

Also there bugger all americans :

Hmmm been to 20+ countries.. this is my 2c

Good:

Our strong sense of mateship,
Our unique flora / fauna,
Great weather,
Clean air / water,
Amazing scenery,
Low unemployment,
Good social support network,
The amazing variety of food on offer,
We are still the land of opportunity,
LAND BABY! And lots of it!
Pretty cheap petrol,
The many freedoms we have,
Our many laws / regulations,
Free media,
The amount of competition available to keep prices down,

There are heaps more.... but for now that is it.

Bad:

Many laws / regulations,
The different state / territory laws etc,
Crap / costly public transport,
The Monrachy,
Our over priced communications,
The fact that we are getting Americanised,
Lax / unfair law enforcement / punishment system,

Cheers,

Jason

Good:

Meat pies
Heaps of variety in food
population spaced out
good community (Mostly)

Bad:

Telstra
Public transport
too far behind in technology
way too tight gun laws

i get so stoked on our history and the characters australia has had, there's a real wealth of aussies that have stood up for what they beleive in with nobility and raw honesty.
we have it so easy here, unemployment is freaking low, especially in wa, if you can't get a job here your trying not to get one!
and i'll never get over the nature here, but i guess theres some of that in most places still!

only bad thing, we voted in kevin rudd, what were you thinking australia?

Everyone keeps dissing the fact that we are too overregulated ect by the government, but has anyone stopped to think that it may be because of this that Australia IS such a great place to live in?!!? I mean, if we are let too loose, maybe we'd take too much advantage of that!

Good:
The people

Bad:
The other people, yeah, the ones that still live in shanty villages in the bush with no respect for the government funded houses, cars and services that are provided to them, at the expense of us tax payers, and who decide to roam the streets of nice outback towns breaking into the homes of and stealing the property of those who have worked hard and sacrificed alot to afford them. Those who decide to bash the elderly for their empty purces so they can buy another carton of beer, or pack of cigarrettes. Those who we are still waiting for to evolve.

My 2c.

So the most popular at this point are the women and the beaches.
Pretty nice.
I also notice that employment rate is very high, which is good.

The good:
Awesome beaches/nature
Fantastic looking girls (Don't tell my fiancee I said that! She's a stunner though anyway)
In general people are pretty easy going
Hanging around the barbie with a few mates and a few beers on a hot summer day
Weather is pretty good
Relatively low crime rate
Pretty clean
Great food that can be as healthy (or as unhealthy) as you like. Some of the stuff I've seen/heard about overseas, yuck!
Dropbears

The bad:
Stupidly high housing prices in capital cities
Pathetic court system that doesn't charge offenders properly, with more scumbag kids starting to appear
Tax, tax, and tax. Did I mention the tax as well?
Behind the rest of the western world in technology/internet
Too many PC/bleeding hearts popping up
Dropbears

Top country! Just watch the dropbears.

Just a Quick question at Birdman or anyone else who may know the answer

In the states is it true that if you receive a phone call or a text that you pay half the cost with the person who sent it?
I hope that makes sense.

Good
EASY GOING
THE BEACH (Cronulla)
Some of the best RWD cars at $$$
Weather no extremes really
National parks
Being able to walk most places at night and not fear death
Sport is huge
Clean drinking water
Some people have put this as bad but the rivalry between people from dif states is quite fun State of Origin for one
When u buys something off the shelf u pay the price it says you don't have to add on tax at the register (got caught out a few times)

The bad
Roads NSW
So many add on Tax
Allot of cultures colliding
Government has no spine or brains
So many deadly animals
Lack of good snow
And Holden’s

Actually, I don't know, as I have a "no texting" request on my account.
Some plans have unlimited texting,
but I don't know if it's for sending and/or receiving.

I don't know about the states, but I have a friend from China and she told me that you do need to pay for received calls over there.

Same in Singapore, I believe alot of asian countries do this. But the cost is very small. Mind you international sms is cheaper then local sms.

Maybe I misunderstood, but do you have to pay for your
internet by the amount of bandwidth you use?

not really but say with Telstra you can get 12GB of useage per month (includes upload & download) for $70 1500kbps speed, after you've used the 12GB you get slowed to dial up speeds.

theres better plans around though..

We pay 100 per month for unlimited internet, phone (digital voice),
and digital cable.
All on the same bill.
Speed is amazing, but I have no idea how much bandwidth I use.
