Thanks bud

Yeah the ol' VT didn't age gracefully did it?

And by design standards the AU is ahead of the BA :

Still, as a car company you need to build a car that will appeal to the masses. Holden by rights had a toe in the water feeling out reaction to design with it's imported Astra models I guess and just suped-up the effect and clag-glued it onto VE- obviously the deisgn is not a gamble and it will sell well. AU by comparison was a huge gamble and didn't work- BA would have been a better car to carry over from E-series (the FORD E-series) then into AU (albeit probably with a different interior) as the design would have flowed better and not been such a hard shape to swallow, but this topics been done before....

The AU standing out more now is attributed to not many cars in our market looking like it. The Taurus getting the boot helped.

Really about the only thing "wrong" with the AU (series 3 at least) was the lights. Ford should have changed those. Wait they did (plus more) and called it BA.

The shape was overall very good it was just some elements (lights and grills) were ahead of their time/poorly executed. Oh and I NEVER liked the VT. The VT/AU period was when I found Subaru.

I quite like the look of the new hsvs. Ford really need to wake up and stop trying to produce cars that would've looked good on the market 5 years ago.

What I think is funny is that the maloo has GT look-a-like mags and maloo r8 has the mags from the DJR gt.

I really wish they would stop stuffing around with these obese out-dated cars and build a mid-sized car with the same running gear. Seriously, I am not going to have a family anytime soon and parking is a bloody hassle. Front or four wheel drive is utter nonsense for fanging fun performance cars.

I thought I'd collect the best pictures I could to allow people to compare the two cars on looks. Sorry if loading is slow.

Subaru as good as they are still went through an identity crisis as well.

Remember the bug eyed rex? Talk about shooting yourself in the foot!

Also Hyundai did the same thing with the Twin Cam Excel as well. After over a decade of struggling to make any sort off real impression with mainstream Aussie car buyers they came up with the sales success of the Twin Cam Excel (the frown model), only to replace it with the very boring and bordering on ugly Accent! What were they thinking???

shame the FPV is such a nose heavy pig.

Don't mind the look of it though.

When will ford put a better V8 in it?

The gap between the back wheel and the wheelarch on the GTS looks huge. Compare it to the GT, which looks like its been lowered in the pic. The GTS would have looked better if they had color coded the upper grille bit. It just looks out of place. The first thing I would do is paint it the same color as the rest of the car. Red interior is a bit extreme too. Wheels look quite unusual but they look OK. FPV need to follow HSV's lead and fit 275 wide rear tyres too.

Was just thinking about how long it would take for people to start putting VE HSV kits on their VL to VTs. Due to the fact that the front bar is nowhere near as deep on the new HSV, hopefully it won't happen .... then again we all know it will definately happen.

Killer Taxi, that was a great comparison.

HSV owners should be aware..................plastic is recyclable, so the resale value should be good :

I must admit those pic's really show that FPV have done a great job of styling the aging body of the Ford to hold it's own. I actually prefer the look of the FPV from the side view in those photos. While I still love the look of the FPV from the front as well, I really love the front-on shot of the GTS in that photo.

Excellent work Killer. I was of the opinion that the side profile was the VE strongest. All this talk about the AU doors and such but that single shot of the GTS shows a side profile that does have an aggressive glass area but doesn't have much else going for it. Slab sided doors devoid of character and wheels that are positioned so far at the outer extremities that this appears raises proportional issue similar to that of the rest of the VE range.

Can’t put my finger in these VEs. I had thought the front was their biggest concern while it was FPVS strongest side but the front shot does look excellent. Just when you think you they have the E series looks sussed along comes another picture that creates doubt and not always either negative or positive.

I saw the new HSVs in the flesh today, and they don't look any better than the pictures. The back end just looks weird.

Interesting that the Toll HSV Dealer Team Commodores now have painted-on HSV vents on the front guards.

Pretty good comparison in the pics above. I reckon that the interiors of both are pretty even in terms of style. The rear pic of the GTS looks pretty bad to be honest.
