The Taurus has a torque reduction of 100Nm with that engine as I mentioned earlier, plus the Taurus is heavier than the Falcon and has AWD, which also increases acceleration time. The non-detuned EcoBoost can push an F150 to 100km/h in 6.5 seconds. Why wouldn't it push a Falcon in 5?

Word is the 2014 Falcon looks like a more aggressive version of that SHO, which I do like the look of.

Well at least it's a step in the right direction, AWD, and Boosted! I don't mind the look of these cars, plus if they do get here I'm sure Ford Performance will have a faster tweaked version? Maybe change the Falcon badge to Viscount?

What's not rocket science...?
Replaceing a platform released in 2009, with another platform released in 2009...that's due for replacement?

Umm, wake-up and smell the coffee guys. For all intents and purposes you ARE looking at the last best hope for Falcon/Territory. OBVIOUSLY it is a current model, …, and ? We can only HOPE that there will be a new Global large car platform.
The lack of logic in here defies belief. If Ford can’t justify a new large “global” platform to replace the D3/D4 for the Taurus/ Explorer/ Edge/ Lincoln whatever, they sure as hell aren’t going to cough up for a completely independent platform just to build a few Falcons. Territory is STILL being built on the old EA169 platform, so we had better HOPE there are plans for a new global platform. I love the I6, and think the current generation is a brilliant (if slightly agricultural) engine. It is miles in front of the **** V6, but its days are numbered. The future is the EB4 for those wanting economy, a V6 for those wanting more, and the EBV6 for performance. I suspect that FA plans to slip those into an update of the current E8 platform first, such that when we get the “All New AWD Falcon” it will be less of a shock. All things considered, the BEST we can hope for is that they keep the Australian factory open building heavily localised versions as Falcons & Territories. As for whether the nameplate should die, if we end up with fully-imported cars, then YES, they should build the last Falcons in Australia before shutting the doors. But if we do get local development and product of an Australian LARGE car built on a global platform, then I would be happy for the Falcon nameplate to remain.

If the Taurus makes it to our shores, with or without a Falcon badge, I still can't see an
increase in large sedan sales figures happening.

The previous Taurus if you take away the styling was a bloody good car, my uncle has had one from new and we have had an old dunger... Obviously I preference RWD and I hated the access for repairs. But in every other way it was fantastic for its time.

I agree mate, no matter how good ford model x is or any other car for that matter, we are so over catered for in Australia with the flood of imports it is hard to see any one brand regardless of how good it is ever being a mass market leader..... unless they absolutely give the cars away for very cheap, not really an option for our locals, probably possible with some of the imports though.

Unfortunately whilst we here jump up and down proclaiming our undying love for the Australian Designed, Australian Built, I6 RWD, we are in the minority. GMH have already moved to their new global V6, and a global FWD platform is just around the corner. Whether FA drop the price to sell more, or not, it will be more profitable for them to build a global car with localisation restricted to suspension and trim. And that's assuming government assistance to keep the factory open. Otherwise they have the option of making the cars on their existing lines in the US or Mexico, or even expanding their Thai facilities.
