Default Paint.

I was on my way to work this monring and when I got on to the freeway, doing 100, I hit a bat. The stupid thing hit my front bumper and peeled the paint off and its starting to flake around the point of impact. What should I do? Just clear coat over it so it doesnt flake until I can get it sprayed over. Also what should I do in regards to the paint? Touch up, or will I have to respray the whole front bar? Also I get back to my car this arvo, and the stupid kiwi ***** parked beside me has left a nice big blue mark up my mirror. This is so bloody ridiculous.Aaarrrggghhh.....

Monty, get advice from a panel beater asap. I know what you mean about carparks. I am very careful where I park now, my EF used to get hits all the time. I would rather park further away & walk a little extra.

It was at work, so this guy is going to get a few words from me in the morning. The sad thing is (on his part) is I was talking to him all day, and he acted nice and said nothing about it. If he would have came in this morning, and said, "hey Josh, I hit your mirror with my Kombis door, Im sorry", I would have had a look, and said "Meh". People like that really get me angry.

A low act his car was probably crap so he doesn't care. What makes it worse is looking at your car he would know you care about yours. He probably drives a commodore as well! :

It cost me $20.25 for a fine tip paintbrush, 100ml of touch-up paint, and the finest sandpaper I could find. Otherwise I got it quoted at a smash repairs, $125 for a half of a re-spray of the front bar. Its only the size of a 50 cent piece, but the paint has the look of its about to flake off.

Yeah, with the front bars being plastic 'n all the paint doesn't seem to stick to 'em very well - get a bit of a crack or chip and it'll start to flake/peel off like you said - due to this I think it may be a little hard to feather the edge of the area you're sanding but should be doable if you're careful.

Sand the cracked/damaged area of paint off first so you have an unpainted area with a smooth unbroken edge around it (maybe would help if you draw a circle with a knife to score the paint first then sand away inside that circle. Then sand in a circular action around the edge of the circle to feather the paint edge with a really fine grade of paper. The prep the bare plastic area (plastic primer first of course) and repaint, clearcoat and cut/polish as usual - you'd need an exactly-matched paint to make it look good though and a little hobby/air brush to spray on with so you can overlap/feather the painted edge around the bare patch.

Maybe you were just gonna touch it up rather than repainting the area as such but if you do it like I said above you should be able to make it look good as new again and not have it crack again later. Another hint I think would be to add a little flex agent to the paint if you repaint the area yourself so the plastic can still flex a bit with no probs.

Don't take what I've said as 100% 'cause I have much more theory than experience with painting, but if you wanna fix it permenantly/professionally yourself then it shouldn't be too hard/expensive, so maybe those tips could help.

Steve.

Thanks. I confronted the guy who hit my mirror today, and he exploded. I have come to a few conclusions: 1. He is a white kiwi, aka, Greg murphy
2. He drives a Holden, aka, '' ''
3. He hit a ford, aka, " "
4. He denies doing it, aka, " "
5. He blew up when confronted about it, aka, " "
I have also come to the conclusion that this man should bare the nickname, The handbag, 2.

So would I be right in assuming you will deny any knowledge of how a clublock got embedded in his tail lights? :

Mongrel Murphy,

Can't win the championship fair and square so he pees into Skaife's pocket by shunting Ambrose. What a dirtbag! Ah well, Ford is still 1, 2 and 3 in the championship. Hope it finishes 1, 2 and 3 for the Blue Oval as well!

You can still see the indentation if you look side on, there is a little over spray from the clear coat, but if you just glance at it or if you doidnt know it was there, I dont think you would notice it.
