What's transmax z like compared to mainlube dollars wise?
Have read some good things on mainlube from the sponsors section. But at over $100 for 2Lt that's alot of money. I guess you get what you pay for.... Right?

Tend to agree with the comment about Mainlube BUT it certainly does seem like top notch stuff. I think I would probably be more inclined in a vehicle of the age of an AU to use a good quality oil and change it more regularly. I have some Penrite stuff at home ready to go in and I am happy to give it a go - always had good results with their stuff.

Another vote for Transmax Z.

Mainlube is top notch, but very expensive.

I use Penrite Manual gear oil 75, it is listed as suitable for gearboxes that specify auto trans fluid. It already has the friction modifiers in it.

I tried that oil and i found it rather hard to select 1st when sitting still. Went back to Castrol ATF and its perfect again.

2 Litres of Mainlube 154 Synthetic Solid Boundary E P Gear Oil SAE 75w80

would be the best for the job.

2 Litres aren't much oil to lubricate a 5 speed.

Don't forget to flush

Cheers

Steve

I actually just put transmax in mine this morning so I haven't had much time with it but it is definitely quieter than before. I also added Lubrizol 7906 (I think that's what it is called) so I presume that makes a difference too. I did the diff too and from initial driving, I think I have solved the diff chatter problem so I will keep my fingers crossed.

Will this stuff work in my diff aswell? Just noticed the mainlube stuff did so I thought I'd ask the question.

I added the transmax to the gearbox and penrite (+limslip) to the diff. Should have done it years ago.
