Last time a mate checked (he bought an EB V8 that had the cats removed for some reason), the fine was $10,000. Needless to say, he got some fitted sharpish.

I race at the drags without mine - and although i also did run around town without for a while : Think of this ? The catalyst actually burns off all the poisonous fumes, and carbons(add scientific jargon here if you wish?) although you DO pick up horsepower under WOT conditions without it , it serves a very important purpose ! I dont know about you? But i wouldn,t like to be contributing to giving my loved ones OR the people i care about Cancer ....Would you ??? :

I think it depends on what state you're in & how nasty they feel they can charge you around $25k if they wish.

Not just the fines, but his health would deteriorate a little after a while of breathing in unburnt fuels.

Tell him to get a Metal Cat.

Get a highflow cat.

This thread raises a question for me.

If you knew of someone who has been getting around for over 6 months with the cat convertor removed, what would you do?

If it makes any difference, the car is BA mk2 turbo and the cat was removed for performance reasons (3 1/2 " single exhaust and no-one makes a 3 1/2" cat) by the previous owner. I've explained to him it's a serious offence to remove the cat from the system but he thinks that because it wasn't him that had the system fitted, it's not his problem. He also claims the local Ford dealer fitted the exhaust therfore it must be legal.

Personally I can't stand the bloke himself, particularly after he was driving this car into an underground (also unfinished and unventilated) carpark during construction, then had the audacity to whinge long and loud about people smoking on site.
