Default Fairmont dash conversion into forte wagon

Hi guys I know this has been done before but I want to clarify a few things before I actually tackle this project. I currently have a AU Forte wagon built 6/99 and suspect my heater core is leaking so I was thinking if I'm going to pull the dash and heater box out I might as well convert it to a Fairmont style with climate. I know I have to use a complete Fairmont dash assembly and climate heater box, add the ambient temp sensor under the bonnet and use the High series BEM. Now the part I'm not sure about is in regards to the immobiliser. If I get a BEM and key from the same donor car do I still need to change the steering column? I'm confused about this part because I did a climate conversion on my VS SS a while ago and to make the car start all I had to do was change the BCM and key head. Any tips on this project would be much appreciated.
