Question BA Air Intake on AU 6?

Hey ppls

Ive seen Falkeens article on the BA pod in an AU 8. Looks great.

Has anyone done this on an AU 6? If so post some pics, i wanna see how it works.

Ive already worked out the Throttle body faces the opposite way, but is there anything else i need to think about. Im also debating adding another pipe to the pod or moving the snorkle - as it doesnt really seem to get that much air where it is now.

Im also thinking of adding the main intake from another source, and larger too ( from the pods or behind the lights , still thinking it over ) . Then also looking at removing the original snorkle all together as it gets really warm running over the radiator . That gap around the hood for the snorkle with no snorkle attatched would also help get a little more cool air under the hood (I'll leave the snorkle scoop without the snorkle behind the grill just to help get some extra cool air under the hood) .. work in progress..

I put a GT pod setup on my auII xr6,had the rubber boot going behind the light(had to be slightly modified(read cut) to fit),used a hole saw to cut a hole for the snorkle. The bracket for the pod bolts to the guard ok,I used a K&N pod inside the holder and used piping from the filter to the tb.Hopefully the pic may help.

Hey Rob and Liss, That was a jolly good set up!

But I like the new one better!

the AU's have so much more room under the hood up against my EL, I have tried to use robs pod set up (shown) and the plastic pod cover fouls out on the XR vent. There is so much air flow through those lights and surrounding areas it’s just not funny.

Rob Ill show you my new idea soon

did u get any gains?

I was thinking of doing a similar thing. With the pod I was going to leave the snorkler where it is, but on the other side, cut a hole and run a pipe through the hole to wheel guard. I have the TE lights, so im not sure of airflow through there.

With pipe, Ill have to leave the original bend, which sucks, but attach the BA hose from there - im hoping its all 3". I might even make it shorter.

Hi Nudge. I do have a BA intake pipe on my au six.Custom made useless pipiing to the airbox and a pod filter. The ba pipe may not have the pcv system working properly and my back seal has a small leak. However I do think that it is bigger than the au.The pod makes the car feel a bit torquier but I have no proof. I will post a pic when I take one.

As stated,I also found throttle response improved. No dyno to prove, just seat of pants type of thing. Also fuel consumption appeared better.????

Drew, looking forward to catching up with you on sunday, and very interested in your new setup.

Bigger is not always better. G&D have found that using the stock plastic pipe to their Pod setup is better than a bigger pipe. Something to do with air velocity or something. Remember that the BA has dual VCT, so maybe the bigger pipe suits it better, but there are no conclusive results that it suits an AU. I would swap back to my stock pipe, but have "modified" the rubber seal at the airbox, so need a new one of them before I can revert back to stock.

nudge if your going to fit the BA GT airbox if i were you i would get the BA 6 cylinder intake pipe that is much better flowing from the throttle body and already has the flexible rubber tube on the end that could hose clamp straight on to the pod box

(have a look on aufalcon.com for pics of the BA 6 intake pipe in the tech section)

Yep this is true. Its like a blow dart gun.If the diameter is small the dart moves quicker to its target.Thats the same for fuel.If the pipe is too big then your lungs will come through the pipe before the dart.

the other side of the equation is that with a big cam and big revs the car is more likely to benefit from a bigger intake.

i dunno for sure about the size of the BA intake manifold, but would it line up propperlly on the AU I6 ? , if i was gonna do something like put the BA air intake airbox and piping on , imo maybe look at putting the matching inlet manifold of a BA 6 on too if it fits ?? , im curious about this myself too ? , i know the throttle body inlet faces the other way etc etc , but does the actual BA XR6's inlet manifold itself line up with the AU xr 6's block ?? , is it any bigger ( as in ported out more etc etc ? )

The ba intake pipe fits right onto the au throttle body. The rest of the piping is different

yep - but im wondering if the actual BA inlet manifold fits onto the AU I6 block aswell ?? ( so the whole intake system could be changed - might be worth doing if the BA inlet manifold is ported a bit more ?? ) .. is it any larger or ported , will it fit ??

no, the BBM on the BA is not interchangable with the BBM on the EF-AU.
Yes, the BA one is actually bigger in the runners.
