Ecoboost really is a strong point for Ford at the moment. look at the success of the Ford GT an Le Mans, and the award on the small 1L 3 cylinder for the second year running
We have a few smaller variants available for sale here up to the 2.3L 4 cylinder in the mustang. but no V6 yet! The most recent article I read on the Ford Edge we arte getting says diesel only, so we miss out on the Edge Sport with the 2.7 Ecoboost V6?? let alone the 243KW Fusion/Mondeo Sport I would have loved to have seen the last Falcons and Territory's with this engine. People couldn't get their head around a 4 cylinder Falcon, I must admit I'm the same. But the 2.7 ecoboost in the Territory would have been magnificent, and now it looks like we not getting any

How many different engines does the FG-X then need?
Ford already had the Barra 6, Turbo 6, S/C V8, and ecoboost all available; in a model which had a 2-3 year life span, and a rapidly diminishing customer base. Two of these engines are arguably the best ever offered in an Australian made car. Sometimes you need to be thankful for what's already available. |

Only referring to the 3.5 but I have to admit after a ride in a 2015 Taurus SHO i'm a convert, AWD and the 3.5 Ecoboost fangs. We need that here (in ANY form) to give any sense of full to the 4.0L turbo. The Taurus is a wolf in sheeps clothing, actually that may be insulting to sheep.

You can buy them as crate motor's with the controllers and wiring looms from ford motorsport then put one in whatever you like I would love to build a ecobosst 4cyl crate engined escort or cortina one day.

Instead of which engine then? If it's instead of the Ecoboost four, then I'd say that the Ecoboost V6 is surplus to requirements because there's already the Barra I6 and I6T. If it's in place of the Barra engine, then what would be the point of choosing to continue production of the Barra instead of building the Focus here? And if it's in place of the V8, there'd be a lynch mob camped outside of Broadmeadows baying for blood.

Your anger is misdirected. Ford of Australia made the choice to go with the Barra engine about seven years ago. There is nothing that can be done in the remaining four months of production.

My concern is more about the future. In four months time there will be no Six cylinder Ford on sale here in Australia. and there seems to be no plans to bring one here.

It was reported that Ford were deciding on whether to allocate its limited resources towards building the Focus here or upgrading the Barra to meet Euro IV. They chose the latter.

Ford dedicated a lot of money and effort convincing yanks that the ecoboost was a worthy replacement for a v8 in the F series trucks. I really enjoyed the torture test videos they did on the ecoboost V6 and recommend if you havent seen them to have a look.
I get what your saying Bevsta and I agree. Ford dont have a car for me anymore and that makes me sad. A 4 door sedan with a bit of spunk (aka taurus sho) would be nice. Im not interested in a Ranger, but im in the minority. |

I'd be very surprised if Ford actually were going to build the Focus here regardless of what they told the media.
Hopefully one day the V6TT will make its way into a performance car we can buy. Might be a while though. |

I'm reminded of when Toyota started marketing their cars with "High Cam" engines. A descriptor that meant absolutely nothing. Turbo-charging engines to get more power, is hardly new. Fortunately the technology has come a long away. My wife's car also has a modest 4 cylinder engine with a fat turbo. Would switching to a smaller, more economical 6 have saved the Falcon? Ultimately, no. The Death Warrant was signed almost a decade ago. Will we get a (potentially turbo-charged) V6 version of the Mondeo/Fusion? Possibly even AWD? I'd like to hope so, but it would seem to depend on finding a cheap manufacturing point. The problem with the Mondeo has always been that it is seen as too big for the SE Asia market, so I think the only place making RHD versions is Spain for the British market, and we get the scraps. I'd like to hope that would change, but FA's new focus seems to be on cheap cost high profit.

I'm hoping the Focus RS500 has that 2.7 V6 Ecoboost. Ford had problems developing the 2.3 Ecoboost to the power level of the RS- in interviews, Ford engineers reported unexpected engine failures during development.
V6 RS500 would be a real step up! |

I took delivery of a Mk3 RS yesterday. The 2.3 in the RS is an amazing engine - very linear and powerful. Combined with AWD its a very easy car to drive fast.

it is certainly disappointing that the marketing department don't think we want the performance variant of anything here (ST and RS excepted - but we had to wait years for those)

they are designed around economy, low rev response to give the feel of a larger engine. where are previously Turbos were only fitted for performance. the by product is more power if you put the boot in.

Focus was never going to be built here, FordHQ made the decision to close Broadmeadows a good eight years ago.

Territory ended up with the Jaguar-derived V6 diesel, which I don't think was ever referred to as an 'ecoboost'. |

I wonder how long before Ford match the Euro turbos and have inboard turbos with reverse flow heads? They already know how to do it with diesel V8's for F series Super Duty

To me, one of the big drawcards of the Falcon is the Inline 6.
I like 6 Cylinders in a row, it sounds good, it looks good it's just very "Falcon" to be I6, and its what makes it better than the Commodore having a V6. Even if the ecoboost V6 is more powerful or efficient I still don't want it. It's like if you went to Harley Davidson and said "...but ...but ...a watercooled inline 4 with chain drive is more efficient and powerful than that old aircooled V twin design" - So what. |

Inline 6 will remain in BMW, Merc and Jag, as per the other thread. They will get to be unique...
To Bevsta, agree it would be great if there was petrol ecoboost 2.7 Edge AWD coming, but it's diesel only? oh well. There's a spot for petrol AWD in the monocoque SUVs. |

The Barra is a good show piece for what Australian engineering on a tight budget, can achieve. Many times Ford Australia ran orphaned engines, often to greater success than the yanks attempt. I find it hard to believe you lament keeping Aussies jobs for the sake of an engine that doesn't overshadow the Barra at all. Talk to any American Ford fans, and they lament the fact that the Barra never made their shores.
