hmm....since the reflector wasn't designed for HID use i'd be guessing that there will be quite a bit of glare produced. also the hella H4 is for off road only and doesn't comply with any ADR and there fore not legal for on road use, so in my book more trouble then it's worth.

If you were prepared to retrofit HID projectors it could be done properly, but it would take a lot of dedication. I have a similar kit in my Eunos with stock projectors, which is OK but not ideal.
A good link is http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/ |

the main reason to upgrade to HID is to increase your light, or drop your total amp draw....if you just want looks there are other options for your car that are safer(legally speaking). if you want increased lowbeam contrast ie higher tempreature colour out put from your low beam consider upgrading your car....as the AU low beam is pretty darn good.

What are the standard globes that were put in the AU's? The ones that are in my AU are crap they have no spread at all. I was thinking of trying the philips vision plus. Does anyone know how well they work? |

I have a set of bi-xenons H4's in my AU2 Ghia. They do the high beam, by using an actuator thats part of the bulb.
They are the retrofit kit as seen on ebay and hella. I just make sure that I have the main bean probably a little bit lower than the correctly aimed setting to accomodate the power of the xenons. As for the police, I have had these bad boys in for about 2 days, and driven past 3 coppers, and noone had a poblem, even when I was following one for a brief period. They look great though and the light is awesome. |

The AUXR come std with H4 60/55 (dual filament) globes. Also they have a metal reflector body & glass lens (totally inseperatable) therefore making any modification virtually impossible. My advice would be to install Philips Crystal Vision or Blue Vision 60/55 watts. Using a higher wattage in these headlights (or any for that matter) only results in overloading/overheating the electrical system & burning of the reflector surface. :

That is true, but blue-tinted bulbs of any sort generally have the same heat issue as they try to immitate the pure white light of 4300k HID. The tint creates a whiter light by reducing the yellow from the spectrum, but of course that energy is turned into heat and effectively means reduced output and increased wiring/reflector damage.

UITABLE FOR OFF-ROAD APPLICATIONS ONLY. NOT ADR COMPLIANT OR LEGAL FOR ROAD USE. Fitment and use is only permitted for H4 headlamp systems with integral globe shield.
Shouldn't matter anyway? Off road my a**

I was going to get some of those narva vision ones that are surpose to put out 50% more light for my au2 forte. Will they actually put out that much more light without hurting other peoples eyes?

The vision plus would still still have a whiteish look about them being 3500K. Standard globes are only 3200K |

Mine run at a colour temp of 6000K ... and kinda look blue ... more white than anything at night though ... I also have adjustment set down a bit as well to reduce glare. But they are not ideal though ... hence why I will be retro-fitting HID projectors into my aftermarket AU headlights soon ... when money and time permits ... then I will have a perfect flat top beam with no glare whatsoever. Mind you I was flashed by a Bombadore last night (after he flashed the VW Touareg (with HIDs) further in front of me .... they VW driver flashed him back ... so he decided to flash me as well ... poor bastard didn't realise I had a set of LightForce 240 Striker driving lights on the front of the ute as well. ... I think he was seeing stars/spots/was blind after I flashed him back. Hope that taught him a lesson.
