Default service time..

gday again,
my 6 monthly service is due with the dealer I got the car from to maintain the warranty. it will be at 54k by then.
the dealer wants about 800 bucks for a 60k service, so I'm gettn the standard (at $249). what do I need to do apart from a gearbox service at a 'real' mechanic??
thx again guys

Better get it done by a pro (doesn't have to be ford tho) if you want to keep the warranty gods happy.
Where in Sydney are you? Sinclair out at penrith have got their act together in a big way. If you speak to groomy (user name etheos, he posts on here occasionally) he'd be able to look after you.
I can't vouch for price of course but I know you won't get stuffed around there.

Sorry - I was posting that message on my phone so only got half the story out!

I bought the car from Subaru second hand, so with their extended warranty It needs to be serviced through them every 6 months, and that service is booked in for the 28th, but they will just get the basics done, oil/filter/make sure bits aren't falling off.

What I meant to say is what else needs to be done at 60k being a major service? I'll go see my other mechanic for that as Subaru charge a bomb!

It's all in the service manual, under "B" service schedule. Basically, in addition to usual oil and filter change: spark plugs (you can DIY), air filter (which you don't have to worry about). Brake fluid needs to be changed every 2 years and coolant every 4 years.

I really don't see how they could justify charging you $800.

They charge $249 to change oil and filter and check over - they are extremely $$$...

Thanks for that DZ - didnt even think of looking in the service book....

5L of oil + an oil filter for your car would cost the dealer less than $100 as well.

Those extended warranties are not worth it, you have to service every 6 months etc etc. The warranty usually only covers about 1/3 the cost of the repair, i.e $1800 for a transmission which for a focus (if it ever has an issue) would be about $4000. So you would be up for most of it.
If its under their stat warranty then by all means get it serviced there cause if anything goes wrong during the stat period then they wear the whole cost.
If its AWN or the like then you can get it serviced by any qualified mechanical workshop, use genuine parts will keep the powers that be happy.

Even the RRP on the 60K service of the Focus (non XR5 or TDCI) is only $508...Apologies for the late reply...been busy at work. If you are sydney based, let me know and I'll get you a special forum price. ;)

As painful as it is having to get servicing every 6 months, when the driveshaft packed in they covered the full amount, They are happy for me to get brakes etc done elsewhere, just the actual servicing needs to be with them.

Really getting it serviced every 6 months is a good thing.
also look in your service handbook it will tell you when each part of the car requires servicing.

Just had my 15K service done. All good report, feels great.

Cost $312 at Brad Garlic Ford.

Asked head mech' about my XR5 dash. He reckons they can program it for me for about $80 in-house, reset the K's to my reading for $120 (external supplier) plus about 3 hrs labour! But car must be there for 2 days.
So there may be hope yet! I want to see it in writing first...

Well, my car is going in next Sat, and spoke to someone who knew what they were talking about.
$249 is the standard service, and they are charging an extra $49 for brake and clutch oil changed.
I asked about the spark plugs as its in the B schedule, but after Subaru rang Ford to check, he was told as they are platinum plugs they last about 100k?

@ Leakey - that sounds pretty cool - pain in the **** you have to leave it for 2 days!
