Default is it the injectors?

hi guys, ive had a ticking sound coming from the engine bay for a while now, its real loud, i can hear it when driving next to a wall or barrier. the car still runs fine but i hate the sound. makes it sound crap
would it be injectors? is it bad to have them doing it?

Didn't look but if it's a v8 then more than likely the purge valve which is up in behind the near (passenger) side guard. Fords technical fix is to access the area and bend everything up and wrap a rag around it but be careful this is a highly technical ford skilled operation.

got my extractors put on today and it seems to have made the ticking louder. when i looked under the car it kind of sounded like it was from the cat/gearbox to. unless the sound travels through the extractors somehow

Extractors do make a ticking noise of their own.

Perhaps the noise you had previous to their installation was the timing chain. It is known to rattle, mine drives me nuts. The tensioner is hydraulic IIRC.

Try a different viscosity oil and see if that helps. I've tried 10W/40, 10W/50, 15W/50, all with varying degrees of success and next time I just may try a 10W/30. It's trial and error.

All the best with it.

There's no valve clearances to set, the tappets are hydraulic also.

Have you tried to isolate the noise with the old "long screwdriver handle pressed to your ear, then touch various parts" trick?

It can be staggering how well that works
