Default speed limiter

does anyone know a way around these, are there chips available etc ??
my car has been on the dyno twice in the last 2 weeks, and hits the limiter...

there is no way in hell i will be doing over 170 on the streets, its purely a dyno thing.

Here is what I posted to another person who asked a similar question:

Im going to show pics of the result of taking off the speed limiter. They are from another site, but I think it is extremely inportant to show them.

Complete tailshaft failure, took out, the shaft (duh!), gearbox, exhaust, pobaly other ****** too, yet to see. Plus for some reason both airbags deployed.

Let go AT 192 KPH.

So there you go, Dont remove the limiter unless you change the tailshaft.

180 speed limiter in your ute given that its an auto and a ute. sedans got the bumped up limiter but utes are set at 180. mine is removed thru the edit and i have had it up to 190 but the tailshaft starts crying foul.

Pursuit 250's ran a 2 piece tailshaft which can handle higher speeds but they do have a different diff assembly to your regular XR8 (i think), i.e. the way the tailshaft connects to the diff is different so it's not just a drop in part. BA shafts wont fit either so it's definitely a custom made item you would need, probably Mal Wood or someone would be the one to talk to.

And if you ever sell the hardcover off that ute let me know

Yeah true but a lighter tail shaft is spin a lot smoother for longer isn't it?

as i mentioned above, ive had my ute up to about 190-195 and once you get there the tailshaft does start to whinge. push it any harder and it will get louder and louder and it does start to vibrate.

My last dyno runs, the ute was hitting 199 and no noise or anything, no vibrations etc, very smooth, and as i was driving it on the dyno i wouldve felt anything abnormal...

All depends on the car, condition of components etc, some are good, some are bad...

green and red are 2nd gear i think ( the first two) .. and the last two are third, because he had to build up speed to stop it from kicking down into second..

i think the second gear runs where checkin afr's, he also checked timing.. and it was at 25 deg. base was locked in between 12-15

pink was last.. and blue second to last

the 11 Afr's is the ecu realising its wide open and dumping fuel as a saftey to keep lines cool etc... so ive been told.

Got to love these chips... only tuned for better AFR's at WOT, and a quick touch up for idle...

the AU has 2 speed limiters one is in the ecu at 180 the other is at about 190 when the tailshaft self destructs and the car stops

Couldn't you run the dyno in 2nd instead?

Mine has an aftermarket LPG system, and out of curiosity I've pushed her to 190kmh with out any noticable vibrations than 170 etc. Accidentally I've also spun it out to 5800/5900rpm in first at over 100kmh so I guess the LPG can also over ride the factory 5600 limit.
