Default S in circle on dash

From memory this is the updated version of the popular "spanner" service light on the ealier AU's and E series correct?

For the life of me cant get rid of the bloody thing.

Tried the hold odo button down with car off then turn ignition to ON
turn to ON and then hold down button etc etc combinations of all those things (including tongue out while doing so - didnt help either)

any answers?

Its the speed alert Adam.

Hold down the top button on the the left hand side of you steering wheel controls. (It is the seek button for the cd player IIRC). You have pressed it down and put the speed alert on. To turn it off is to push it down again, until the S dissapears.

It doesn't measure the speed of the service. There wouldn't be enough room on the odometer display to do so lol

yeah same thing happens in the BA/F's, if you hold the left paddle in for a second or so. then the volume up and down buttons set the speed to alert from memory.

rofl. I just took my car for a quick spin and I'll be buggered. I had no idea that the au's had this feature.

it's a function which would rarely be used by anyone... pretty pointless really. Especially with the amount of changes in limits around the suburbs, and the fact most of these cars have cruise control anyway

the servivce light was taken out because it had to be taken to ford to be taken off and was annoying to do so as if the odometer was 1 km under the service interval the light woudn't erase because the car thought it haden't been serviced so kept it on until it clicked over and had to be erased again

not quite sure what you mean but anybody can turn off the service spanner on pre-AU models. It takes about 10 seconds.

same deal with AUI's, but i think you have to hold the odo reset for a it longer (14 sec ish for AU and 10 sec for pre AU from memory)
