Default 13 second AU six possibilties.

I dont know. I am pretty over the power mods at the moment. just cant help but think that we should be running 13's in normally aspirated form.
We have got the engine capacity, weve got the determination so does anyone have the desire to build and to run a 13 second daily driven au ford ?

i guess the main thing is that all it is is bragging rights, for the same money you'd most likely have a V8 running even quicker.

i think your pushing something uphill to have a daily driver AU 6 than can reel off 13's . Much easier and could be cheaper to bolt in a turbo kit. AND faster :

v8s are everywhere but how often do you see really tough n/a 6's?

turbo 6's and eights are an everyday sight :\ nothing special about that.

Nothing special about spending thousands just to get hosed by a similar priced turbo or V8.

thats why i said its only bragging rights.
unfortunately for most people, they want bang for buck.
i'm all for people doing amazing things from a 6 cylinder, but unless they've got something to prove, most people will go the cheaper option to get the power they want.

I wanna get close to a 13. Now that my cars a manual & lighter than a fairmont or a wagon. With a cam & chip & few other bits and pieces, the manual owners should get close.

I dont think it is bragging rights at all. It is a sense of achievement and knowing that you were right in your selections.

How much I Would love to see any one of us rattle off consistent 13's is not funny. I just dont think anyone has seriously dared to do it. The only hard thing is someone getting the combo right. Us auto blokes have reached for our hi stall torque converters and I think its time to reach for some more power!!

I'd love to see an AU six run a 13 1/4... I actually sold my AU to my parents, they realised it was too good to let go, 50,000~ km's, perfect condition. If I ever decide to retire the GTS, I'd probably get back into the AU! If that was the case....... 13's...

I think it can be done and will when AU's are cheap enough to run as a drag car weekend car only so you could mod it and lightweight it to the point of it not really being anywhere near a daily driver. the engine will give enough power at the rear wheels for sure if you can get the weight down to 1350kg from 1600 you would be laughing.

I think the cam and tuning is the key.

True true.It all helps but am thinking around 160 to 190 rwkws and a nice power curve is what we need. I think if we put the work in that we can do it.

If your car will run 93 mph + over the 1/4 it should be capable of running in the 13's, it just needs the correct combo of convertor, gears, tyres and suspension to do it.

It is possible..but the power I would like to see is the torquey savage type I have seen from the modern 4.0 litres's more primitive grandfather like the 250 2 v motors.Had to do ab trainning everyday just to reach the radio on that thing!!

With the amount of development going on at the moment, I'll bet there will be more than one 13 sec N/A AU 6 by the end of the year.

Don't know if i'll be one of them but it will be done.

No reason why it can't be a daily driver either.
I do 100k round trip every day, in the same trim as I ran my 14.38.

Tripower..you can do it man.If you really want to. I think your right though. Chris ,G &D ,etc ,even my nuts n bolts approach to modding has created a wealth of information and choices for others to draw on. Wont be long.

The au six is taking its place in the perfromance podiums . As we cain the other guys the word is getting around...beware of the taxis!!LOL

The 4.0L is a great motor, with a manual its one of the most fun motors ive driven.

13s shouldnt be too hard.

Just need to crank it up to 200-220rwkw, drag radials, and some 90/10s up front.

At the moment engine power is sitting at around 180rwkw NA. Noone is running big compression and/or 6throttle intake. With those two additions and a suitable cam i rekon a 13 is easily on the cards.

And get out of the BAs theyre too fat. EAs are pretty light, theyd probably be the best platform for a 13 attempt.

It's nice to be confident, but even a 13 sec 6 is no match for a T3.

If you're going to count a 13.99 as a 13 second car, you are really clutching at straws - it's closer to 14 than 13.

There are a few (low) 13 second I6s (E series etc), but I don't think any of them would be daily drivers or family cars - they are just too savage and temperamental. Which is the reason Ford produce them with modest power and low (high) gearing - comfort, and os the average driver can drive them easily.

Good luck with the 13 second chase. I will cheer when you reach it, but you will have to let us know how much it cost - in terms of money, sanity and family life.

I think you'll find the stock head won't support the flow required. If you port it properly, you would need a fairly lumpy stick to get the air through quickly, with bigger valves etc, and it will actually lose it's drivability. As suggested above, it would be confined to weekend warrior duties for most of us (especially most of us older, family types).

I am quite happy with my 15(???) second wagon (until I get a BluePower tune, then it will be a faster 15 second wagon). I still scare a few V8s and turbos. I don't think anyone gives the wagon the credit it's due - it takes off quick enough to beat most to the legal limit, or at least to scare them into moving off quicker!
