hi guys, I am currently running standard gear. I am looking at upgrading to either - BOSS V8, 220kw AU V8, Turbo kit, Turbo Barra, or brand new crate engine.
My budget is not high maybe a few grand. If anyone could help with some information of possibilities and rough prices this would be great. thanks guys

I think the Boss update might be out with a few K, Have you considered selling the car and getting a base car to suit your needs, i.e a AUXR8 or similar?

For a "few grand" you are better off spendin on diff, histall/clutch, cam and exhaust (if you dont already have it). None of your engine upgrades will leave you any change from $7K to $20K depending (based on a reliable system)

I was actually going to post this myself...
Agreed with the t5, cam and zorst... but put a bit of a spin onto it. Realistically, for a complete conversion, including trans, engine, looms, computers etc would be ballpark 5k. (i just priced a 220kw engine in bris for 2750). Obviously labor aside. Turboed, being very convervative would get you approx 10-20% more power than a v8 conversion for the same 5k (keeping changing things to a minimum). I dont know about anyone else, but i love v8's so much. I have always wanted an au v8. Ghia v8's are rare as anything, but have a down specced motor. A conversion would be probably more economical than a sell and swap! Moral of the story is i think i'll co the conversion over a turbo. i have been thinking and dreaming of it for over 2 years now (getting on 3). Weighing it all up, i think i'd rather get myslf a 220 motor, stroke it, cam it a little, spend a few k working it, then dropping it in over a weekend. But daily im swinging back and forth. That being said, anyone selling a 220 motor or above, drop me a pm In the end Rennie, its personal preference. And how deep your pockets are. Keep in mind anything substantial you do you will get no return on with resale, so only do it if you intend to keep it (or money has no meaning :P) |
