Default AU /II/III standard vs VCT

Just wondering if anyone can give me a decent guide as to the performance difference of the two. I know the KW is 164 v 172, but has anyone driven both to get a decent opinion of the two? Possibly in the market and not sure whether to only look for a VCT or just go for either.

it's actually 157 v 172, the xr6 hp had 164. it depends on if you plan on modifying it, at the moment there is more aftermarket support for a non vct as far as cams go

And the Ghia VCT version had 168, so its 157 v 164 v 168 v 172. Torque figures are different too, ranging from 357 to 375 for the XR6 VCT. The offset of the extra power in the VCTs is the extra 80kg worth of IRS they have to cart around, so the HP (164) is actually the quicker car on a power to weight basis.

The VCT is almost V8 like in it's torque, and is nearly as good as the series 1 XR8 for power delivery etc. I've had both, and prefer the 8 more for the sound than any power advantage, though the 8 is slightly quicker. Of course, once you throw series 2/3 XR8s in to the mix, there's no comparison!

Well the modification would be LPG. Had a 99 AU XR6 which I converted to gas, and stupidly sold it. Found it to go very well on the standard xr6 engine, straight gas. So my question would be vct or normal when factoring in LPG and no other performance upgrades.

The VCT's are a great ride, good power and handeling. Ours is in the ute so no IRS as well.

If its going onto LPG then just get a standard engine. Why pay a premium for VCT when you are going to be running it for economy anyhow?

Agreed - unles you go VSI, then you might as well get a V8. My V8 runs fine on LPG using mixer ring (only 6rwkw difference to petrol), but VSI would/should/could actually see a power increase.
