Hey all,
I currently am throwing around some options for brake upgrades in my AU1 fairmont as the brake's it has now are utter crap.. I have noticed that all good brake packages are for AUII onwards.. none for the series I owners. I have the option of upgrading to the series II setup which would probably be my best option.. From what i have been told around $1000.. but that is a grand before i am any closer to stopping better.. If i am going to focus to make the car go fast, i should also consider making it stop too. So far i am considering on just upgrading the front to the series II setup and slapping on some brembo's or premo's then some RDA rotors on the rear and some better pads.. Hoping for an overall cost of around $3500 max. Bbuuuttt, what other options would there be? All input welcome. Cheers, Matt.

there is a BIG brake option from cebco of which we get 10% discount on from memory??
its $2500 for the front..then another $2500 for the rear.. set of brembos (this is all from memory may be more) there is also the upgrade option available from FTG that was written about a while back from memory.. that IS for the AU1s good luck!

Thats the 2 piston PBR caliper and 13"/330mm rotor as fitted OEM to SVT Cobra Mustangs, EL GT, and I suppose others (I think C4 Corvettes?). That kit includes modified spindles, so you are basically paying for an AUI-AUII/III conversion there anyway.

Chuck some Territory brakes on the front. Bigger still than the BA brakes, and probably cheaper than premo's. I know guy who is doing this, don't know much about it though, but it does still require series II stub axles and sway bar etc.

Damn guys where are you getting your prices from :
Tickfords premiums sell for less than $1000 for the fronts and the rears aren't that much either. Chec k out these Tickford Premiums and you can see what I mean. Mick

I would just bite the bullet and do the AUII front end upgrade so you can take advantage of all the brake options for that configuration...
In fact that is what I am doing. Should have some nice 329mm rotors and Tickford "Premium" calipers once its done. The AUII setup as it is will brake better than than the AUI, so the $1000 is not a complete waste. But there is no reason to do the upgrade with the std rotor and caliper.....go straight to a BA/BF, or Territory, or Tickford premium rotor and caliper. That should take a bit out of that ($1000) cost and put it towards the better brakes.

As I understand it, the AU1 to AU2 brake upgrade does come with standard AU2 discs and callipers, and is fron only. So, yes you could ask for the kit to be made up using Terry brakes, and still com in at around the $1000 mark (maybe a tad more).
As the rears don't do a lot of braking, there's not much point upgrading them anyway - even the Brembo packages etc pretty much use the same disc/calliper on the rear, just with a brembo trademark on it. Best bet is to ring FTG and ask them how much - much better option than all this speculation.
