hey guys,
started my car yesterday morning, running on empty (gas), slowly got to servo, filled the gas tank up, went to leave the servo, as i accelerated car started to backfire sounded like through the intake air box, now the car hardly idles on gas and soon as u put your foot down backfires through air box, switched it over to petrol idles 90 percent alright, but sort of stumbles under hardish acceleration,and idles high on petrol, the gas sytem brand is impco, i turned up the idle on the gas system little screw thing on the left hand side,just wondering if anyone may know or had this problem before. thanks. At a guess your first backfire has created an air leak that is resulting in lean mixyures and backfires.

As Turbotaxi said .. Being a gas/fuel system though , really it should have the spring type clips holding the airbox lid on, so in cases of hi-pressesure/backfires it can spit the lid up on the airbox to quickly release the backfire / instead of keeping the pressue within the system . Has your airbox got the spring type clips ?

I'd also recommend you never let the gas tank run empty.

mixture runs lean because an lpg system doesnt have a "fuel pump" so to speak, and relies on the liquid pressure from the tank.. and the tank empties, pressure begins to equalise and hence, less liquid flow to the converter and eventually (very near empty) a lean condition..
backfires? vacuum leaks, lean condition and ign. problems |

hmmmmm, never heard that before, I always run the tank to empty, without fail. never had any problems along those lines either (well none that werent caused by something else anyway)

You have probably blown the vacuum port bung out of the manifold, where the PCV hose usually is. When LPG is fitted the PCV hose is usually re-routed to under the ISC and a bung is fitted over the original port. Have a look under the throttle body, between it and the rocker cover. If its idling high on petrol after a backfire, this is normally what has happened.
