Basically, if you can not afford the fuel, you can not afford the car.

You do save heaps with LPG. In the last 2,000km of driving, I only spent about $150 on LPG. An equivalent petrol version would have costed about double.
I travel about 25,000km a year. A fulltank of LPG (100L) gets me 600km around town. LPG costs on average 50c/L to fill, that is $50 per 600km travelled or $2,083/year worth of LPG. Even if I am pedal happy and got only 500km out of a full tank, my annual LPG running cost is $2,500. A petrol version costs about $90 to fill 68L (around $1.32/L). Assuming 68L gets you 500km, it'll cost $4,500 in petrol over 25,000km. Also assuming 68L gets you 450km, the annual cost over 2,5000km is $5,000. It is much worse if you use 95RON or 98RON petrol, or if you are pedal happy (less mileage) or if you fill up on the wrong day (e.g $1.40/L). From those calculations above, LPG pays for itself in roughly 12months (25,000km). |

I'd rather be the guy driving his XR8 (long distances) on LPG everyday rather than the one admiring it sitting in the garage all week. I'd be modifying that statement to "if you can't afford the third-party insurance, you can't afford the car" .. |

V8's run really really well on gas. It will cost a bit more to to the V8 then the I6. I would advise you to get a gas injection system as you will maintain the same power and economey just at less then half price at the pump. There is alot of info on this in the LPG thread, perhaps this thread should be moved to there. |

Maybe I should of elaborated more, but how many instances of people buying V8's and performance cars are there who then whinge about the price of fuel. I know i've heard a few.
I have nothing against LPG, my work vehicle runs on it and so does my project car. Other vehicles I have owned have also run duel fuel. As for people driving with no third party insurance, don't get me started on that one. |

How much do you lose out performance wise with just a run of the mill LPG conversion anyway ?

LPG injection for an 8 is around $4000, with mixer ring conversion running at about $3000 (maybe more, maybe less, depending on city you are in, parts supplier - GRA/Vialle etc). An 220kw XR8 on mixer ring conversion would be close to a criminal action, but on sequential injection, or whatever it's called, it's just an alternate, cheaper fuel that gives just as much go as the traditional fossil fuel.

I don't know, but my facotory LPG is very smooth for my driving habbit. The spec for the LPG is 143kW @ 4500rpm, 362Nm @ 2750rpm.
The petrol equivalent is 157kW @ 4900rpm, 357Nm @ 3000rpm. As you can see, LPG makes good power and better torque down low, probably due to the higher octane. It drinks about 15L-16L per 100km around town and 9L on the freeway. On a 100L tank of LPG, that is alot of mileage for very little cost. |

I can't understand what the problem is with LPG. Its a cheaper alternative fuel which you can use on cars. I don't care how good or bad it is on the engine (like engines are built to last for ever anyway). Regardless of whether you can afford the fuel or not, getting twice the distance on the same cost, I can't see anything wrong with that. Makes you want to drive your car more, and you can because you have more money. Plus the money you save, could be put into paying off your mortgage quicker. An extra $50 a week extra on your home loan wouldn't be such a bad thing.
I can't wait until they do a V8 E-Gas Version.

leave the 220 alone, spend the money on something like a fuel miser KC laser or similar, make it your daily, keep the xr for the weekends, with the quality of LPG getting around ( and the amount of LPG falcons that come into my work on tow trucks) i think its more trouble than its worth, but like i say all the time, to each his own

Leave the 220 kw alone! if you want to wreck an engine go 200 kw or prefferably a 185 kw series 1 xr8. Unless its injector fed forget it.

This is the reason why I have a little Laser to run around with BUT the cost of fuel still hurt's, anybody who say's it doesn't is kidding themselves or they have a company fuel card and shouldn't be commenting in this thread because they suck, lol.

My 98 Futura on gas uses 14 litres per 100 to and from work. 8x $1.40 OR 14x$55 $11.20 OR $7.70 $14 per week saving, times 40 weeks of work driving (I'm a teacher) = $560 per year. That's without going on holidays to Sydney and Junee! That's without weekend driving! GK

Therefore 10x1.40 = $14.00 OR $7.70 = $25.20 per week x 40 weeks = $1008 per year without weekend savings! Not bad I reckon! If it was driven that distance for 52 weeks the saving would be $1310.40 GK

can we all stop telling people how good gas is? Keep it in the dark.
LPG is crap, dont get it, its horrible, causes lots of problems etc..... Remember, low demand = low cost.
