Besides the major structural damage looks like the motor would have copped a far wack too. Even to some1 that was in the smash repair game im unsure if its worth the $ an effort.

I've seen quite a few front end smashed cars where the airbags havn't gone off... there are a few reasons for that to happen though... doesn't mean it was faulty...

its not a direct front on accident....
what triggers the airbag going off is the panel inside that white inner bar structure being pushed back into the panel the sensor is inside there.

even if the engines stuffed, it'll sell for things like the heads, intake looms ecu etc etc..
then interior, etc

i'd expect someone with an XT to buy it - or a wreckers for parts

......
Not quite it is actually just under the bonnet release handle behind the grille.

Not sure if you agree with me or still think its inside the white inner bar structure. So to clarify for the others.

As taken from the workshop manual, in a BA falcon it is below the bonet release handle...see pic.

Also a damaged BA GT (see other pics) with no engine damage...and no leather, but the rear wheel was torn off and missing and a statutory write off sold at the Fowles auctions here in canberra a last year for $14500.

I later found out that you can get the stat write off revoked by reshelling the car, the guy was going to transfer everything to an XR6 he bought for about $22K.

I want to know how the rta know exactly what damage the car has to begin with, iv'e been told you need to show paperwork for every part replaced in the car so how do they know whats been reused or replaced.

Alot worse damage that was on mine (BA GT-P 709) and it too was written off. I'll have to look through the posts in January to find exact amounts but insurance companies do not fix these cars because of the cost of genuine ford spare parts.

Let me shed some light on this one from some figures quoted on my car.

Front Bar $2500
Rear bar $2000
Bonnet $1500
Engine bay assembly $2000
Front guards $300 each
Rear $250 each
Windscreen

Then looks like all front suspension, brembo calipers require replacement, perhaps a couple wheels. At least 2 months of panel beating and a full respray. I'm guessing $40k or so in repairs and thats before you pull the car apart, you could find more. Car of that age and miles would be insured for not more than $50k, therefore write-off is the only option.

On the surface, it looks like a complete driveline could be had on the cheap. Interior looks OK, nasty shunt though.

Hey ADSGTP the prices have gone up a bit since, I just got my F6 back after a colour blind old dude tore the front of it off at a set of lights and the panel beater was amazed at the cost of parts.

Front bar cover $2800
Upper Grille $695
Lower grille $565
Foglamp Bezzels $100 ea

Plus the foglights and the foam and plaxtic inner bits...about $4500 all up, and took ages because its an FPV you need to supply a VIN, mothers maiden name etc...

Who ever buys that car will most likely buy a new shell from Ford, around 8k, and re shell it. Perfectly legal here in Victoria. All you need to do is get permission from Vic roads. They will then inspect the wreck and the new shell before giving the go ahead to start work. This will then be recorded on the written off vehicle register as a re shell. The car will be re registerd as a GT Falcon.

That gt-p reminds me of my AUii xl ute ... So yea that is a complete write off n parts job. with my accident i sort of lost control at 130km/h plus and spun out hitting the guard rail at around the same speed. If there was anything dumber i could do i can't think of it ... well except go faster but as anyone who has caused an accident there is no greater shame.

Ford are not allowed to sell a shell to just anyone, only for a race car and with proof it will be used for that. Any car leaving Ford must otherwise be ADR compliant 100%.

Thats to the best of what I know, if I am wrong please show the proof

Pretty sure that a Geelong Ford dealership sells BA Falcon Shells in Parts Trader magazine... doesn't make what you said above wrong, but you can buy them from a dealership.

Not sure on the sale of shells. I belive Parawolf is correct. If they wont sell you one then it must be a new rule. They used to be listed as a single part number in the parts books.

Vic Roads Standard No 25 outlines the requirments on page 2. This document can be down loaded from the net. Not sure on the rules in other states. Its a balance that has to consider the cost to insurance companys if the wreck value is less because it cannot be repaired legaly and preventing organised crime from re-birthing stolen cars using a wrecked cars VIN. The Vic Roads guidline seems to address that balance.

I still see complete body shells new from Fords on transporters now and again here in Melbourne.

Iv'e spoken to 7 dealer's in sydney and they can not supply a shell, they stopped selling shell's in 98 or 99. I'd be intrested in this particular dealer if you know which one will sell me a shell as i want one.

Yes, they are a bit of a joke. On my quote from spares we 10%-15% discount are the parts came to $32000
