Default Blown Boss 260

Hi Chris,

Firstly, well done with the tune last year in Canberra, it's still going strong - 248.9rwkw and running at 10.5l/100km on the highway.

I'm used to the car now and looking for more grunt. I'd thought about a bluepower CAI and 3.7 diff gears - but for the cost I might as well put it towards a blower (once the car is out of warranty!)

I've never had anything to do with superchargers, so when you have the time could you give us a general run down on the pro's and con's. What sort of power, torque and cost am I looking at? What's likely to break? Are they a good option for the street? Which set-up do you recommend?

I'd imagine my SS CAI and filter would have to go, what about the underdrives?

Anyone else with a blown boss I'd welcome your comments also. I'm particularly interested in the lower end of the market.

Off topic, but would you consider changing my diff gears on your next Canberra visit? Would 3.7 diff gears be too short for a manual blown street car, if I choose to go down that route?

Ta

Hi mate, Glad to hear the car is behaving as it should.

Manual Blown BA's present themselves with all sorts of problems holding up the drivetrain. Making torque and HP with the blower on the boss isn't the problem, holding the rest of the car can be an issue, particulary with the series 1 5spd and 3.23 rear axle. Even just 3.7's and a decent clutch can see an NA car run hard, whereas big 350plus rwkw grunt will sometimes "upset" the cars road stance on a gearshift, resulting in low et's but huge MPH.

Its a dicey one, but either way i would be fitting the gears, as they will make the car more "liveable".

Once fitting 3.7's, the new vortech sealed unit CAPA are releasing should be fantastic value for an entry level, 320rwkw XR8 blower. Watch this space for more details, as we will be evaluating them soon.

Chris

I too am considering the blower route, even a powedyne should do for me as I don't really need the top end charge just the low down torque.
as mine is auto and 3v it has torque to burn anyway.
This should make me not need a hi stall as i will have more torque down low.

How does the p/d blower drive on say a stock xr8 ?does it really liven it up down low ? or is it still progessive ? as mine won't be revving past 5500 i want low down power.
I think the blower is next on my to do list, seeing as my other blown car just broke the 500 rw kw barrier :

Hi Chris.

I think this is what I am waiting for , if it is what you mentioned on the phone to me a few months back with good lifts in the low and mid range.

Yes mate - it is REVERSE mounted as well, so will give the car quite a nice little beating with no intercooling.

Nice, its about time someone reverse mounted one of these in a Falcon. Should get rid of some awkward plumbing...

Who is putting this reverse fit, sealed vortech kit together?

so are there any off the shelf bolt on style kits available for the 220 3v from the states?
Since the motor is based on what come out of ... i think the F series 4X4's, would there be anything that just bolts up and gives a bit more punch, or would it be better to wait out till the capa kit is finished and tested?

p.s : sorry to hi-jack this thread

the one ive orderd is the 2.3 ltr with inter cooler kit see how it goes - the 2.3 ltr can handle more rpm and higher psi than the 3.3 ltr acording to whipple

If only it could be made to fit under the bonnet of a BA I would get one.
oh and a 3V inlet manifold would also be nice.

Battern's supply the little eaton with there kitas or you can buy the kit and option it with the whipple or the kenny bell if you like. Boost is only determined by the pulley size so that's nothing majour.
