The V8 technical section on this forum did have a thread relating to under drives but last time I looked, I couldn't find it. Best to speak to sponsors who supply them.

Have a look at this thread Underdrives discussion

Underdrives basicaly let more power go to wheels, Less weight to spin etc. Thats how I understand it anyway.

UDP’s change the pully ratios by x%. By putting a smaller pully on the crank and larger pulleys on the water pump and alternator , the crank requires less effort to spin them therefore the engine will spin up quicker and a bit more snot to the driving wheels.

Effect is much like what the gear box does, 1st gear will accelerate the car quicker than 2nd gear and so on.

An underdrive pulley also throws out the balance on your engine. Ford will not cover warrenty if you have one of these fitted.

Balance is not the problem, ford are claiming harmonics are a problem, byt no solid proof has been presented.

Sorry then I will clarify an underdrive pulley also throws out the harmonics on your engine. Ford will not cover warrenty if you have one of these fitted.

Sorry I will rephrase: An underdrive pulley also throws out the harmonics on your engine. Ford will not cover warrenty if you have one of these fitted.

isnt the pulley and the harmonic balancer two pieces on the windsor? or do you have BA?

if you leave the balancer alone and just replace the pulley, i see no reason for there to be problems with harmonics, and even if you replace the whole thing, it may not make that much of a difference anyway - lots of people (esp with chevs i think) put steel balancers on their V8s and dont seem to have any dramas, though they are making a shedload of HP.

How much more power to the wheels would you gain from replacing the pulley? Is it a notable difference? I personally didnt think it would make THAT much of a difference.

Mate can only go by experience if choosing a under drive l would go with powerbond under drive as have not heard of any dramas with them but heard and experienced plenty with the BPT under drives...
