Yes it's the Avalon. Camry will also be released, although it only comes in a 4 cylinder.
Toyota think the differentiation of a 4 cylinder camry and the v6 avalon will sell more avalons. They're probably right.

In Toyota speak bigger, heavier, thirster = wrong direction (Falcon, Commodore etc).
Well, that's my guess.

If it's front wheel drive, Toyota is going in the wrong direction.

As much as I hate to say this, but the Aurion will Kill the 380. People won't buy the Mitsubishi product over the Toyota product, as sales have continued to show. It might be time to sell the Mazda6, and get a car that will hold its value - a 380, which will be a collectors item.

Nah, toyota will invariably have big ideas (like avalon will beat falcon and commodore) and come up with naught. Front weel drive 145kw avalon? the 380 will be ok if toyota make this mistake again.

dont think Toyota is the type that what to us the avalon for any race its just a basic car to get a family from A to B.
The sportivo range might have a chance to go into the running even thou there less torque than more power with that range |

206KW 3.5L V6 destined for new avalon replacement later in the year, camry will be a 2.4 I4 130kw only heavily designed with lexus theme, TSV/TRD will also be comming to aust in the last qtr with some decent vehicles, and there is talk of RWD supra comming back to fill the void left from celica/mr2 and compete with 350Z/RX8/crossfire

Good to see Toyota finally becoming interested in the performance game again. Watch out for that one! The last time they got interested was with the RZ twin turbo Supras in the 90's. Still a very fast performance today.

Not sure but torque is 'only' rated at about 340Nm ish despite the 206kW figure. The Falcon is over 380Nm. If the Avalon doesn't dramatically improve in looks no power increase is going to help it! what i meant was due to it being FWD there was a general rule of thumb, any FWD could only handle 200hp or there abouts due to massive torque steer. The Vauxhall Astra VXR has proven this where it has decent torque/power figures but handles like a pig. So i am wondering if the avalon will have the same issue?

Average age of Avalon buyers is 60. Toyota will have to lower that by about 50 years to make any real inroads into Falc/Commy. They are a very commited company and although its taken some years they will slowly but surely chip away at each and every sector to be No 1 in all of them. There is still room for all players but Toyota sooner or later will have all sectors covered as No 1.

Personally, I don't think FWD/RWD is the real issue - enthusiasts on car forums are hardly representative of the general car buying public. In the large car segment, the heritage and strength of the Falcon and Commodore brands are what make it tough to break into the segment, IMHO. |

Well honestly, anyone that buys a new Avalon or Camry isn't into performance, that's why Ford and Holden make `go-faster' versions of their flagship models. If they can convince the majority non-enthusiasts that the Avalon is a better deal, they'll go there.
