Default I was only 19..

Has anyone heard the new version by The Herd? I think its good, not as good as the original but they have done this song justice imo. Im only young, but im right into the ANZACs and all that. Im not too sure that the older generation would be too pleased with the cover of this song.

Redgum or whatever loves the Herd version, and is proud that they're passionate about it.

I was watching interviews a while ago on it and they said they worked together when going about the song (IE. They knew it would be a different path taken with the song).

If it's good enough for the original writer not to call it sacrelidge, it's good enough for me.

the herd are a really good political hip hop group, i think that they would of really done this song justice for the younger generation, i really like the original red gum version as dad has it on record and i was brought up on a lot of his music that he liked, these days aussie hip hop is the way to go if u want an australia untouched style of music....time to see if i can find this song.

Isn't the correct title: I Was Only 19 (A Walk in the Light Green)

I don't like the new version.

I think its a fantastic version... i haven't heard the original before i heard The Herd's version, but i think both are on par.

But each to their own, i can understand how people would think its sacrilege to cover a song, but they haven't done it to make money out of it, nor have they done it to defame the original artist... Its been covered obviously because they have great respect for the original artist, and think it raises an issue that is again relevant today.
