yeah, i just heard that they're going to close it down too... Sad day. Though i havent read the story yet in the paper, i'll make sure its the first thing i do when i get to work.

i guess everyone is just going to find somewhere else to go now... either that or someone with a key to the locks :P

Its a lot easyr for the cops to patroll just 1 area where the "Hoons" are They close shaggers and then the "Hoons" will be all over the place.

I've only been there once, and didn't think it was that bad in terms of hoons. meh, maybe it was pretty tame when i went.

agree with john though, at least it's away from houses and pedestrians

There was nobody out when you were there!

It's a very sad day for shaggers to be closed down, it's like my second backyard! I spend more time there then I do at home!

The paper said that there will be a 6 month trial of it being closed down between 9pm and 6am. Residents have been rallying for a while to get it closed down due to "Noise, burnouts and littering" anybody playing loud music within the area will also be fined. They state that the hoons WILL find somewhere else and thats fine, they'll follow them there and soon enough they'll give up.

I think there are other avenues that should have first been trialled, for example... fixing the road and putting in speed bumps so that burnouts and excessive speeds aren't an option. It's a shame as it really is a beautiful place to go at night and look at the lights over the bay. It could've been fixed up nicely and made a nice tourist attraction... now it will just be a dark, dingy carpark that is out-of-bounds at night.

the thing that concerned me most was this statement... which im going to have to try and remember because i've left my paper at work

Quote:

They're not providing any solutions, or options for the people that don't go up there to "rip a mad skid" or "pump some massive tunes"... Fair enough that the residents are sick of it, but hell its been Tail Light Alley since my Dad was a kid, its always been a car hang out spot. And i for one think it should remain as such.

I'll be getting my paper from work tomorrow, and writing to the councillor concerned. 95% of the people that go up there are responsible, law abiding drivers... not hoons. Its the kind of reaction that i've come to expect from Council...

like i said though, i hope they just use a normal key that every council worker gets for the locks around the city

This Shaggers place is just a lame thing that geelong people seem to do. Its there "Chapel St" Im thinking? I dont know but ive been there once and it was dark, barely lit and pretty unimpressive boring.

To people in melbourne we call it a crappy Kids playground carpark

I can guarantee ya, Shaggers has put on better skid shows than Chapel could see in the next 50 years. What's so crappy about it anyway? Coz not every second car is a jap import with a front mount? To people in Melbourne.... stay there

1 Think that is really frustrating me and i'm considering writing to both the advertiser and the city of greater geelong is that they seem quick to lock gates and offer a narrow minded fix which is basically going to shove people out of 1 area and into the next. They never seem interested in looking at the long term, or seem interested that they are closing down a meeting place that is where a lot of friendships have formed and socialising takes place over a stupid few. I suppose judging by the houses along eastern beach rd and up to the botanic gardens the property owners would be paying lots more rates than the little people who park up the top so the council would be aiming to please them over the "HOONS."

Anyone in Geelong under 40 with a car thats modified in any way from standard is basically looked upon as a HOON now. If you're over 40 you're a car enthusiast.

In Geelong after dark what is there to do where you can meet up with others? Either you sit down at the beach with some friends and show off what you've been spending your hard earned on and putting time into, or Go out to the pub or clubbing. Which the council is also telling us is causing great problems, not due to poor security or insufficient police numbers, no no thats all because of drinks being too cheap!

$20 on everyone just moving back to Limeburners Point Boat ramp car park and then it'll be the next group complaining - Angry fisherman

Oh man buckets and bouques is going to be a classic this and next week

/in joke for geelong people

But see if from another angle, if I had just paid millions to live in that area I wouldn't want sh|ithead tools listening to doof doof and doing burnouts all night either.

I would hire a few hit men and do some panel damage.

What people should try is going to pubs and "clubs"...a good way to meet people and have fun at the same time. And you can drink and not be arrested!
