Some good news for the locals, one would like to thing the R&D that is kept here attributed to this outcome.

Spouse its a start. Looks like more future projects in the making : In addition to the Ranger divi-vans, Ford SVE is working with Victoria Police on the design and development of Ford Ranger 4x4s for off-road and other specific operational duties. Divvy van or paddy wagon, just a slang description - wouldn't want the minor street crims mixing together to morph into zombies in this day and age.

Can someone explain the need for the divvy van?
seems Unique to Australia, other countries use normal Vans or have internal partitions in their cars

Cause without them, how are people going to chant "you're going home in the back of a divvy van" at the cricket?

Hosing out the back of a car is messy

Sedans with partitions are okay for transporting a compliant suspect or offender. The trouble is that the side and rear windows are no match for a cranky 'client' and they can be easily kicked out. This happens a lot more often than you probably realize. The downside is the cost of repairs and then the downtime for that vehicle whilst the repairs are carried out. There's only a limited number of police vehicles assigned to the various patrols and available for crews to use. It hurts when they're out of action. The divisional van alleviates the damage issue as it has a designated custody pod with no glass or hanging points etc. Cranky pants occupant is only going to hurt himself if he starts trying to damage that one. And as Gasso pointed out - much easier to clean up the mud, blood, vomit, urine and faeces afterward! |

The rear door comes off and this cell module thing is put in the back that matches up to the opening of the back of the van. It started my hatred for VW - the way they are put together defies logic Given that Ford maintains a local engineering capability, I wonder if they'd consider doing low volume special purpose vehicles in house - IE second stage manufacturing. Their engineering capability as an OEM far exceeds those of the second stage manufacturers who do emergency vehicles etc. They'd just need a small crew of people to do the modifications that the engineering team has designed - it would mean very high quality special purpose vehicles rather than the dodgy bull**** that is manufactured now. The ute-based divisional vans are generally built on a 4WD platform so as to offer a bit of extra ground clearance and all wheel drive capability when required. They're generally more common in the regional areas. The custody pods are removed from the vehicle once it's decommissioned and then refitted to the new replacement vehicle whilst it's being fitted out with the required emergency lighting/sirens and other equipment. The pods are very well made and have a service life of quite a few vehicles. |

I have wondered for a while why they were choosing 4x4 utes rather than vans.

I hope they're more comfortable than the previous versions I've ridden in the back of.

Its more ranger sales, it can only be a good thing and local input into the process.

I'm surprised it took this long. The Ranger would be a perfect fit for a divy van.
