Default Help me identify this car.

First things first, no photo, sorry.

I was driving across the Warrandyte Bridge in Victoria tonight and I caught a glimpse of a car driving the other way that I've never seen before.

It was two door, burgundy in colour, around the 1980's vintage, and looked like it had a Arcadipane Concorde/Monza/"Mad Max" nose cone on the front, with clear lenses. The body looked the size and style of a Porsche 944. I guess a likely answer would be something like the Torana Mystere show car or the Taipan or some other Arcadipane Torana derivative, if not for the following. The rear of the car looked like it was a carbon copy of a Ferrari 348 or a (smaller) Testarossa, with the horizontal taillights trim extending right across the back of the car and about 6 inches up the rear side bodywork. All the aftermarket Torana kits seem to have conventional rear taillights.

I don't know of a car or an aftermarket fibreglass kit that has a Monza-style front and a Ferrari-style rear. It looked like it was well made and not slapped together, but again it was just a passing look. It was like something I've never seen before, the lovechild of a Monza, a Porsche 944 and a Testarossa.

I'd love to know what it was. Any thoughts?

Sounds like you may have seen an early 80's (possibly '81) Pontiac Trans Am...?

was going to suggest this...just doesn't have the clear lenses on the front.

Only other thing could be a early Fox body Mustang...

Wow fomoco really lost the plot in the 1980s. That rear end and body shape looks like an 80s generic Audi. The XD looks handsome in comparison and wasn't one of Falcon's high points either

What part of that fits the description; no wedge shaped front; no Ferrari 348 like tail lights?

Z28 IROC Comaro?

You didn't get a dash cam pic did you? It would make this game much easier.

Thanks for the help and the laughs.

So the consensus in my head is that it's a toss up between an '81 Trans Am and an IROC Camaro. But I had a look at every suggestion and there's nothing that ticks every box. And I'd thought I would recognise a Trans Am, but it seems to be the best fit.

I guess I'll never have closure, lol.
