2 sizes: Expedition and Expedition Max. The Platinum gets a high output version of the 3.5L V6 EcoBoost. Raptor power maybe?

Maybe it's coming down under. Looks fairly flash. Another two wheel drive SUV with optional 4WD.
There was talk of the Territory replacement last year, but I thought it was another model. This has a new motor for this country too. In the lower parts of the brochure there is the interesting disclaimer .......... "Driver-assist features are supplemental and do not replace the driver’s attention, judgment and need to control the vehicle." |

According to Ford's Canadian site, the Platinum will put out 400hp/480lb-ft (300KW/650Nm).
Even though they have 10 gears, they still have a low range through a transfer case. https://m.ford.ca/suvs/expedition/2018/ |

Landcruiser money? The Everest in mid spec isn't exactly cheap. These things dont seem to be ask focused as the Cruiser for off road etc?

Good looking car - would be great if it made it down under.

No, no they haven't. You're confusing modernisation with evolution. The whole problem with Australian cars is that we were still building big powerful saloons, when nobody wanted them anymore. Simple fact is, doesn't matter who the company is, that if you set up two independent subsidiaries, and told them to build cars from scratch to appeal to mass markets in Europe and North America, you would get two very different cars. For me the classic example is the Honda (Acura) MDX. We almost bought one. We all know Honda make great cars, and the MDX was beautiful, gorgeous interior, and well-equipt. Yet it bombed in Australia and was withdrawn from sale. Why? Because it was designed and built in North America for their market, and whilst the versions we got were RHD, that was the only difference. It was supremely comfortable to drive, but it cornered like an oil-tanker, and at 100kph actually wallowed. The Territory was a great car, but ultimately, despite a few facelifts, it was still being built on the EA169 platform. We got nearly 20 years out of that platform, and it wasn't exactly ultra-modern when first developed. |

The North American Fraud Explorer in its current gen is no slouch, steers handles and brakes as good as or even better than an SZ territory. The fit and finish looks as good as if it was designed and built by Ford Australia. It will hold in excess of 100mph on the open road without breaking a sweat. Took one from Miami to Canada over all sorts of road conditions and it was faultless.

I beg to differ. Drove a 2016 Explorer, and it was right up there with the Ford Territory in performance, handling, style and interior design.

If you want a modern SUV that feels like an old American SUV, get a Toyota Prado. They feel like they tilt 45 degrees when you corner. Luckily they seams to handle better after a couple hundred thousands kilometres. Either that or you just get used to driving and oil tanker down the road. Considering how many duel cab utes are on Australian roads these days, I don't think that many Australians are going after sports car handling when buying large vehicles. Quote:
Surely it's not just me that thinks the Y62 Patrols proportions look all out of whack? For one the body looks too big for the tiny wheels on it. LandCruiser looks all good though Last edited by Ben73; 29-11-2017 at 09:52 PM. |

You are probably right. Interestingly though, The Fast Lane Truck did a towing comparison with the Titan XD diesel and the 5.6 V8, and the fuel savings on the diesel was marginal.

Something I would consider. But we don't get many decent SUV's here so I wont hold my breath.

The 2018 Expedition looks like a giant version of the Ford Flex. The Flex has the twin turbo ecoboost 3.5L V6 with AWD. I like both!

I think I have said before, that the dashboard is designed in such a way that they have left it open to be easily reversed for RHD.
It beats me why they don't bring these out here to try to pinch sales off Toyota. Would not be hard to undercut Landcruiser pricing. Key would be to have a class leading Diesel Engine to do well here. Is there any V8 Diesels in the Ford Universe?

4.4L V8 Lion diesel for Range Rover - not sure if it's in production anymore. Because they have the 3.0 V6 hybrid with 37mpg. It also has around 750Nm combined torque. I think that would be a great option for the Expedition. |

I like the way it looks, with the exception of the rear quarter which just looks really out of place to me.

We hired a 2016 Expedition last year while in California for holidays. It was one of the best SUVs i've driven. Great build quality, performance, luxury and handling
I can't see Ford making a RHD unfortunately and even if they did bring out a RHD version, they also need a diesel option to have any chance of success here (ours and others we seen were petrol only). |

If you got a Expedition, you would have to get the Max version. Proportions make it look less soccer mum

Although it's like a new gen Commodore, it's not a direct like for like replacement. But at least Ford wasn't stupid enough to whore the Territory name out on it. |
