Default caradvice.com.au sold for $35M

caradvice.com.au has been reportedly bought by Channel 9 for $35M:

http://www.news.com.au/technology/in...db58ed2007e930

A bit of an eye-opener - would never have thought an automotive website could be quite so valuable.

It isn't, it's a tax writeoff for Nine and they get some IP in the process.

Given some of the over the top prices some websites command I would have thought it would have been worth a lot more.

American private equity bought nine a few years ago now.
Probably some bankers want their money back.

Very sad to see a once great Australian company run by great people in the sad state it is in now, slowly being ripped to pieces.

Yeah what a story! Alborz was in the WRX club with us and then registered that domain for $35 just for fun. He then turned it into something truly great. The little bugger even got to test drive a Veyron!

Alborz and his mates from caradvice are SEM and SEO geniuses! That knowledge has basically made the website what it is now - that and good write ups.

Bloody well done!

You can't deny CarAdvice commercial success - great photos and well designed website. As for the quality of car reviews - it is a website that is paid for by advertising from car manufacturers . Some reviews are more like infotainment than a critical review. VAG vehicles are their favourites .

Same, I find their reviews to be refreshing and relevant, without all the tribal Holden vs ford bs.And they review everything from cheap to the veyron.

“Actually it was just call “Gull”, because I named it that. Because we knew it was going to poo on everything”.
