I have replaced a few panels on my FG ute - mainly as a result of stupid kangaroos and wombats. Nice and cheap and quick to get.
I got a new jeep grand Cherokee recently and had the misfortune to side swipe a tree. Besides the fact that it took 7 weeks to get the car back due to part availability, here are some of the prices for some part according to the smash repairer passenger side mirror - $3300 (yep - just the freek'n side mirror) door (metal only) - $2200 side window - $1900 If this is what we are in for with american cars after falcon and commodore go it will be interesting |

This is one of the reasons I got rid of a 100 series LandCruiser and bought a 2007 BF MK11 RTV.
Sounds like they have added too many zeros onto those prices,$3300 for a passenger side mirror ????????????????????????????????????????????? |

No he did not: Battery (thankfully under warranty) for my Diesel is $1,200 + fitting. Jeep had the car for 2 days to install. Yep
Oh and your lucky you got your parts quick. Jeep, worst mistake ever.

13 months old, would not start. Roadside assistance jump started it, stated it was dead battery. I assumed a battery is not covered under warranty, so i range battery stores, they started quoting "interesting" prices and claiming battery changes on this were hard? None had stock anyways. So i called dealership, they quoted $1211! After i started yelling at them.........they advised its covered under warranty! However i needed to have them "diagnose" the problem first. Monday morning 10 am the vehicle was hooked up to diagnostics (so they said). 3 hours later they called me to confirm that it was a dead battery. I said ok, can i pick the car up?........NO batteries in stock. Order from Jeep H.O, and i was lucky cause H.O actually had 1 in stock! Following day at 10 am the battery arrived..........it was ready by 2pm. Apparently the new diesel model's battery is a bugger to change. Hope this clarifies my situation

You got next day service on a battery, (not 2 days) which normally wouldn't be covered by any car company under warranty for a car 13 months old. you should be happy The Battery on the Jeep I think is located under the drivers seat? possibly a little harder to change than normal, but in the whole scheme of things not difficult.. In future a supercharge MF66 720CCA looks to be the battery which you could get for $160-$200 find out where your local dealer is in advance

I watched him replace it, the hardest part would be physically lifting it out from under the drivers seat, but its no more difficult to fit than any other battery in any other car, so they're having a lend of you, again. Ditch that dealer.

I know it was around the $500 mark. Your dealer is incompetent, don't blame Jeep or the car for this.

I know of two people with Jeeps who've experienced the same issues, exorbitant prices and very long lead time for parts.

Should have gotten a quote first, that's ridiculous,
or is that what they are charging your insurance company as that tends to make a difference..

My local wanted $330 odd for a headlight globe. Then $30 to install.
Saw online a Volvo dealer wanted $800 to replace a globe. Makes ChryslerJeep look like a bargin. |

I always thought buying a new car is just the entry price, the real costs come after. And I'm sure its all engineered that way to make the companies money.
The first thing I noticed years ago was the move towards bespoke headlights. remember the old 7 inch round H4 or sealed beam on so many cars. Anyone could buy one from anywhere , but if its sculpted, shaped or just enough different a monopoly exists and the manufacturer can charge what they want. Now the interchange-ability between models and even makes is ever reducing to ensure to keep your car going you have to use OEM stuff until enough are sold and they are old enough that pattern parts become available...but at what reliability price? Its good business. and they know sometimes we have no option but to pay as most cant afford a 50K +/- to be permanently off the road for a 'only' $3300 part. But I feel for you a Jeep mirror costs substantially more than my AU Ute and my ute does a lot more than a mirror. I think we might start to see a backlash in a few years when people start demanding cheaper, easier to repair cars...actually that's not going to happen. JP |

People just dont realise how good we've had it with the repair/parts costs of Falcons and Commodores over the years.

You can add to that the annoying fact we're the only country that treats our drivers like children and won't let them drive brand new LHD cars freely on our roads. That, of course, would have destroyed the local industry years ago... |

not just Jeep but pretty much any car these days.
You guys tried to replace a windscreen with rain sensing? Doesn't matter which brand you're not looking at anything under $1500. The mirror, expensive yes, but how many other electronics are in them these days, heated mirrors, side lamps, blind spot indicators, etc.

Make $150 for one with an indicator on the Fg seem cheap (aftermarket).
