Default AU1 XR6 - Going to look at one tomorrow arvo

Hey Guys...

The blue AU will hopefully be getting a relative very soon, and tomorrow we are going to inspect an AU1 XR6 with VCT and i believe due to the VCT, it has IRS too.

What are the usual things to look out for?

Colour of oil
Leaks
power steering pump
all aircon controls work
all 4 power windows work
lights
it shifts perfectly
diff bushes
rust around the common areas

what else is there? it didn't come with any options apart from VCT and IRS (?)..

Its also red if that makes a difference..

edit: this one will be staying stock as hell... its in mint condition so it will sit in the garage unmodded

-Tony

It should have 17s and body kit standard too.

Your list of things to look at covers it mostly.

Nope, no 17 or bodykit unfortunately, but those will be about the only mods..

its more of the povo-pack VCT XR6, because I called Ford and it didn't have the 17's or bodykit on the list..

Cheers JC

Is it an AU1? I was under the impression that all AU1 VCT's got the full fruit. But if they didn't, that's my new learned thing for today.

Pretty sure body kit and 17s were options on all models, i think rear upper shock mounts go in them as well.

the AU and EF were purchased through Central Coast Motor Group at Wyong.. This time, we're going to a newer, family run dealership..

Mine was the first car i bought from a dealer, probably paid too much for it but IMO it was worth it because its clean as, reliable and came with a warranty.

Most of the rear suspension bushes are obsolete from Ford, the lower outer is the only one still available @ $132.00 ea.
The upper Shock mountings are still serviced @ $117.50 part number AU2 5T120 B and AU2 5T121 B.

Don't forget to check Ball joints and frt lwr control arm bushes.

All I can say is that it was flawless..

Only 1 issue came up.. Rear passengers power window doesn't work, so thats an easy fix but on first start up, it didnt go over 1000rpm, and the 2.5" Catback mandrel bent sports exhaust purrs along at idle..

of course we did a 0-speed limit run, and managed to go from 0-70 in a matter of a few seconds.. It really picks up and goes..

Interior is in excellent condition, hardly any marks. Interior is black, and the car itself is a November 1999 build meaning smartshield and adaptive shift.

Everything was smooth, no knocks, and for having 250xxxkms on it, its excellent. No leaks, belt cover is in good nick (for a VCT engine)...

Excuse the iPhone spec pics, but its all I had on me..

I like it... Thoughts?

Its as basic as they come. Hold out and get a manual or one with the bodykit and sunroof or you will regret it forever. Think of it like this, that is an au with a (debatable) better motor and different front end. Guess it all comes down to price. Id guess its around $4000?

I'm with DAVO_XR. Hold out for something with more options and series II or III. It does look like a tidy unit though.

Yeah... its around 4k, just to put it easily..

it hasn't been flogged.. its just a pic i took after my mum took it for a little spin.. it did have over 80 on it. oops

we need to buy this one anyway as the EF is very close to dead now..

edit: other than that, it flys... 225's are on the cards once these are tires are stuffed

$4000 isnt too bad for a dealer. I paid $3K private for a s1 5sp with a lot of extras but thats another story. Just remember, vct's when driven fun use more fuel than the AU v8.

It will probably cop Li-LPG at some stage before the end of the year... the EF on the other hand... well, it will probably go in to cop that aswell at the same time.. The AU Wags will be staying with the t/b ring

Then again, I may as well take it to the drags and make sure the LSD works and get a stock time not on gas or anything..

Its actually lowered too... Yellow springs in it but couldn't get a code.. throw a gas tank in the boot and then it will be near on tucking tire

Not a bad deal for $4k but if you can afford to go a couple $k extra try for a series 2/3.

Naa, I don't mind this S1 as its got everything we all wanted in it.. Black interior, adaptive shift, 6-guage cluster, smartshield, working aircon, new rooflining which was installed this afternoon before we took it for a spin, nice soft mint seats, IRS and VCT, auto, and also the only 1 thing this car will cop if we get it will be an AU1 XR bodykit...

As for rims, i'll have to look into it as i dont really mind the S1 Alloys

I reckon you'd be mad not to take it then. If you're after wheels, I may have a set or 3 free at some stage!

actually, it would be my dads car

he's gettin' old, and just wants a nice, sporty, fast car..

the EF will get T5 manual until turbo, then possibly T-56 from a BA turbo to suit E-series

That car i bought last week at a Dealer wanted $8990 and i ended up paying a lot less in the end.
